Flights to Japan are expensiveツ―alternatives?

We're moving to Tokyo around the same time next year, but the company that I am going to work for are paying for the flights, so I don't really mind for that trip.

I was just wondering for future reference though, if anyone has any advice for cheap flights to Japan from Europe, as everything so far in this thread seems to be from the US. We are likely to be making a number of trips back and forward between Europe and Japan, and don't want to pay more than we have to.

Have you guys ever heard about a freighter ship? Basically it's a cargo ship but you can book a cabin there. It's not as beautiful as a normal cruise ship, but it's still has a decent pretty good environment. It's surely cheaper than a flight ship and a cruise ship.

I've heard of it and one of my classmate in high school actually worked his way to Japan on a freighter one summer from LA to Yokohama. But it is no glamour cruise and it takes over 2 weeks barring any stops and weather conditions. I'm not sure I want to be stuck on a ship for +14 days.
