Exchange program after high school

Hello. I have always been interested in participating in a foreign exchange program, but was never able to push myself to further my investigations about it. Now I'm at my final year of high school and I really want to study abroad in Japan. Are there any programs for after high school that is not independant? I know that I might have a shot to go for an academic year because I turn 18 during the beginning of June, but I want to graduate and spent the month of may with my high school friends. I'm just caught inbetween a rock and a hard place, and I would really appreciate some advice.

P.S. I only took about a 2 months worth of Japanese...

there are some university exchange programs, 3d year in japan and the such or theres Japanese language schools were you study Japanese full time, then theres probably other things 2 but these are the to i know of...
