Wow, your mom is awesome. The closest my mom would come to liking j-rock was when she said she liked Miyavi's voice, but she keeps mistaking him for a girl in his pictures.
 
Yeah, my mom likes fanservice. *is so proud of her mother* It took a lot of hard work to get her to this point though.
 
haha that's hilarious we should start a "moms for jrockers" thread and have them post there haha j/k My mom is funny. The other day I took my hair down from wearing it up all day, so it was super messy and my mom came in the room and was like "whoa your hair looks like you were with one of those jrockers last night, which one were you with?" I said "a few!" she laughed and was like "ooh, that's how it is" That made me laugh a lot.

What made me laugh even harder was I got a hole in my pajama pants, a big one in the crotch! I don't know when it happened, but I think when I was on the floor playing with my cats or something, who knows maybe it just happened in the washer, but anyways I said somethiing about this hole in my Pjs and how I didn't know how it got there, and shes like "I think I know how it did, it's from sitting in front of your computer all day looking at those Jrockers, it burnt a hole in your pants!" HAHA! she also made a comment about the hole used for other things but that was just wrong lol this is so off topic but it's funny. My mom tries to pick out which Jrockers are more me and my sisters(normphobic) type. She usually gets it right too! She loves the girly looking guys and guys who dress differently, so it's cool.
 
Perhaps people like us are the 'whatevers' they are talking about :? I'd say original but even that seems to be a sterotypes these days, too

Well, about being elitist, I have a good example, just look at yourselves saying "j-rock" lots of times, eventhough we are in a japanese music forum, you have to remind it everytime.

It is damn elitist to say "j-rock" when it is JUST ROCK, you sound like it is unique, and japanese created it.

Anyways, when I started to say just rock, pop, punk or whatever it is (yup, without the stupid "j" before it) people get interested on it, just for fun or curiosity.

About rabid fangirls, you just have to go to an anime expo, right?? (or a Visual Kei forum )
I think there is a more dangerous kind on fan: the one who can't look further from the same 5 bands: X, L'arc En Ciel, Dir En Grey, Malice Mizer and _________ (put your favorite band there ^^) and thanks to that, good bands or projects are minimized or rejected.

Believe it or not, people relate "j-rock" with otakus, and we all know what kind of people otakus are.

And when it comes to otakus it's actually very hard to know what one actually means when using that word.
An animenerd (usual norwegian entepretation of it), a home sitter whith bad social antennas(the japanese meaning I think) or a western person "trying to be japanese" (I think americans came up with that use of the word).
 

Why do you have japcore in your profile then? Shouldn't you just have core?

I personally think that your whole post would fit more into the categorey of "elitist" than us using the term jrock... but that's just my oppinion, just like you have yours.
 
*buts in*oh oh!!I have a recent story!!I have a 2 j-rock t-shirts of Dir en Grey and hide *proud* and one time, I was late for school(again) so when I got on the public bus, and pratically the WHOLE bus was filled with goths. I went to sit down in the back and one of the goths screamed "OMG IT'S DIR EN GREY!" and came up to me. It was cool in the beginning because we shared what we knew about them and such, but when I said that their new single(Cleaver Sleazoid) didn't make any sense,(I speak both english and french and this was a french conversation), she started to criticize me on how I didn't know anything about the meaning of the song. She OBVIOUSLY didn't speak english so how would she know? Her friends started to stare at me like they were gonna murder me ^^' She concluded that I was just a j-rock wannabe and ignored me afterwards. I laugh at her...Is it MY fault that Kyo's bad in english(which is cute ><)??And she even mistook Kaoru for Toshiya on my shirt...so who's the wannabe now???

haha i usually like to read the lyrics to dir en greys songs because its kinda like a storey i really love their lyrics.. but cleaver sleazoid is pretty random. just out of no where "one day i will **** your parents" cleaver sleazoid amuses me

IMO, Clever Sleazoid is one of those songs that can make sense, but no one will ever know if it is making the 'right' sense to them. If you know what I mean...

If that girl thought she 'understood' Clever Sleazoid, she must have been talking crap, because no one can ever possibly know all the meaning of a song. It is better to be like you and say it doesn't make any sense to you, than pretend to understand.
 
Yeah...but i'm glad that there are other fans in QUEBEC,CANADA. I live in the crappiest city...ha...and the "one day I will F*** your parents" amuses me too! It's so random.. "darkkk dark sunday, blood stains...you can't save yourselffff" and then ,out of NOWHERE, comes out the reason why Kyo can get scary sometimes...
 
Okay, so I finally decided to read this thread, because my sister was talking to me about it today. Okay, I lied a bit, I didn't actually read it all, but I did skim over a few posts haha. I'm glad I did, because it was so humorous!

I can't believe someone was actually trying to say that being "goth" is a culture, because of an East Germanic tribe that originated in Scandinavia! (Yeah, get your facts straight, they took over parts of the Roman empire.) I really hope you don't believe that's what you decend from, because they were known as being barbarics! How do you know what they dressed like?

Goth is a modern subculture, it's not historic. It began in the late 70's music scene when a subgenre of post punk was created (gothic music or death rock). No affiliation to the Goths, the style of 15th century architecture, or 19th century literature! The gothic style (clothing) actually came from the Victorian era (note the pale skin) due to their obsession with Christian funeral practices (thus the all black attire).

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to sound like an "elitist" as this thread is about. I'm just trying to clear up some misconceptions. You are probably young and trying to get away from stereotypes. Believe me, I've been through it all (I have been wearing all black for nearly 10 years now). I, however, don't consider myself to be associated with a particular group. My friends don't wear all black, and in school I never hung out with those who did. I don't care what people dress like or what label they are. That's one of the things I hate about cliques. I have friends that you can categorize in every group there is (and some you'd have to create names for)!

People need to learn to just be themselves (and that has nothing to do with the style of dress you wear). Also, you have to remember, when you are young you go through many phases. I wouldn't worry too much about what schoolmates are claiming to be, because next year there will be a new trend to follow!

Maybe because that style was CREATED by Gauze, it is an UNIQUE punk style born in Norther Japan, and if you don't know who is Gauze (a legendary punk band around the world) I can't help you at all

Maybe I'm idiotic, and why don't we start to call things with their real name??? japanese rock is rock in the end, and again, if we are in a JAPANESE forum, it is so obvious that we will talk about japanese bands, so I still think it is useless to say "j-rock, j-pop, j-whatever"

Personally, I see SaKeVi's point. I like rock music and if someone asks me what kind of music I listen to, that is what I say. Sometimes, I also say... "and I've been listening to a lot of Japanese rock music lately". I think everyone will agree that it's rock music (or pop... or metal... or punk... etc...) first and foremost, and the fact that it's Japanese is secondary. And calling music "J-rock" often adds fuel to that conflagration of "why do you like J-rock better than western music?", which is (for most of us) blatantly untrue.

I think "J-rock" is just a tag that people adopted because they're talking about only Japanese music, and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. But I do think that it tends to build up barriers rather than breaking them down.

I use J-Rock only for the most parts, when in forums. When I talk about it in general I say rock or Japanese Rock. Or sometimes I don't mention either, if I am talking about my friends, I might say I have found this new artist who I have been totally obsessing over. It might be J-Rock/J-Pop or it might be other type of music.

Like for example recently I was at a family's members house. I was listening to Miyavi on my headphone, and I had the cd case in my hand. When my cousin asked who SHE was I said oh HE is a Japanese musician, but don't worry cause you probaly won't like it anyways.

As far as the whole Otaku thing, I like anime, but I don't consider myself an anime nerd, or an otaku. I just like anime. Otaku is a level of nerdiness I refuse to go. It might come to a surprise, but my life does not revolve around anime and "J-Rock"...It revolves around my computer.
 
I mostly say I listen to JAPANESE rock because I don't particularly listen to american rock bands. If I say I listen to rock only, people tend to ask "what group?*insert various american band names here*?" I can't really answer without saying that the bands I listen to are japanese...And then they ask me to show pics of random j-rockers and conclude I must be mentally ill when I say they're guys X_X

When you put useless tags to music, making it with the only purpouse to make it "different" from everything else (eventhough it is just the same thing as worldwide rock, as I said) I consider it becomes elitist... what's the difference with Thailand rock?? Mexican rock?? Argentinian Rock?? as music they have the same structure, the difference is just the language (supposely, because a lot of japanese artists sing in english... or at least they try ^^ )

And only for that japanese rock has to be different from the rest of rock music?? and another thing, most of people I know say that japanese music is the best, and putting your "j-rock" above "regular music" becomes an elitist attitude.

And if I offended you daemonette, I apologize... and if Poison thinks my posts are "idiotic", why are you replying them?? you are just becoming as idiotic as I'm supposed to be
 

So, do you think the creator of these forums are elitist because this subforum (is that even the right word?) is labelled "J-Pop" and not just "Pop"? Because Japanese pop is just pop music sung in Japanese. And after we all talk mainly about Japan so we should just know that this is a forum for Japanese music even if it's not labelled "J-Pop"... Right?
I understand what you're saying, but I don't think people use the term "J-rock" in order to be elitist. It probably doesn't cross their mind at all. In my opinion, if they're not actually thinking, "I'll say it like THIS so that I look better than everyone else.." they're not trying to be elitist at all. I think it's so widely used people just don't notice. I don't think it's that big of a deal :sorry:
 
I never said Jrock was a style of rock, so I don't know what you are getting at with this. I never disagreed with you that japanese rock music is just rock music that is from japan, and has japanese members in it. If you don't like the letter J in front of things, why are you in a Jpop forum? It doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't need apples, or muppets to understand japcore, but a nice red delicious would be tasty right now.

The term Japcore is used to refer to a series of fast-paced punk bands, from Japan. The original intent of Japcore, was to protest the social, and economic changes, sweeping Japan. GISM are considered by many, to be the founding fathers of Japcore. Most Japcore artists include elements of crust punk, anarcho punk, & d-beat in their songs, and focus on issues of global warming, disarming nuclear weapons, and corruption caused by capitalism.

I just think it is idiotic of you to come to a thread titled Jpop and complain about people using the terms jpop and jrock. Why does it matter if someone says Jrock? Who cares? Do you have nothing better to do than complain about what someone calls a genre of music? I couldn't care less that you use the term japcore, I was just trying to bring it up as a point that you can include jap in front of something, but why can't other people include a j?

Why do you have to belittle complete strangers on the internet? You are doing exactly what this thread is talking about, I don't know if that was your initial intentions. Either way you would be well advised to drop it, and leave the forum if it bothers you that much that people say Jrock. Let people express themselves however they want. Here in America we have something called freedom of speech... I like that.
