I am planning to visit Japan this summer for a few months and would like to attend beginner classes while there (I am already taking beginner classes here in Canada but I am a bit dissapointed with the quality).

After having browsed through some ten school websites, I was unable to find a suiting schedule. For beginner courses, only two variants always came up, either 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week, or 3-5 hours a week. I don't want to spend all my time in a classroom, I want to travel... But I also want to learn efficiently while I'm in that classroom. So my question is this, does anyone know of a school that would offer for example 8 hours a day, 2 days a week (or something similar)?

Thanks for the suggestion, it's interesting, but I like to do my own thing when it comes to travelling.

Are you old enough to remember the old Burger King jingle, "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us; all we ask is that you let us serve it your way. Have it your way, have it your way. Burger King."

The schools aren't Burger King franchises.

Quite true, quite true.

Hey, thanks for your wise quote, you can really tell you're a cultured person, I'll be sure to apply your constructive criticism next time I ask a serious question hoping that someone with more experience than me in this field might have an answer to. Would you like some fries with that?

There is a message in there, if you care to listen to it.

It's actually a very important one.

The short answer is no. I have never even heard of such a thing.

It was a wonderful answer. Is this the first time in your life you're facing the possibility of not being able to have something your own way?

Not at all, I just show the same amount of respect I'm shown.

The school you wanted most likely does not exist (95% chance). Why?
Japanese Language School is a "school to study" and a "bussiness to drain all your money". 2 days/week doesnt fit either of them.

Tho, there might be a small school somewhere in Japan that might have your criteria. So have fun searching.

But if your main point of coming to Japan is travelling (on your own, which is more the reason for not going to language school) you shouldn't even bothered looking for Japanese language school. Travel and study really doesnt fit together that well. There is a way tho.

Bye.

Well, my idea was that since I'm going to be in Japan for at least three months, why not learn what I can while I'm there. I'll keep looking but the deadline for registration in most places is approaching fast... The only option would be private tutoring, but that's expensive as hell and beyond my budget. Guess I'll learn from my surroundings what I can. Was worth a shot though. ^^
