Dialect? Accent? What?

In animes i've come across an alternative pronunciation of things.
First of all, It doesn't sound like a different pronunciation, but i'd like to know how does nanda become nandai.
And generally, when do they use e instead of a, like in nai - nei?

Are these perhaps just small differences? Or is this a dialect on its own?
My information might be wrong, its based on my observations, there is no academic research behind.

There are small linguistic variations that depend on the person speaking, their gender, status, who they're addressing, etc. The ones you've cited are just masculine mutations of standard Japanese, and are just a subset of the standard dialect. Dialects contain more variation, and are determined by geography. Kansai-ben is the most famous dialect next to hyoujungo, and is commonly heard in entertainment (many comedians are from this region).

So in other words, since I heard it from a female anime character, they probably want to make her "uber masculine". Well naturally one would assume that.
May I ask if they are exclusively male, or are there rare examples of females using it?

I've heard females use it, but usually when they're trying to sound more masculine, or if they're mad. I wouldn't recommend female students to speak that way, as it's very rude (and quite weird, from my experience) to be addressed like that by a girl.

It's really sad to get talked like that to in real life by a total stranger trying to be of assistance off the street or in a station, but at least so far with me it's only been from young guys...
