i think the reason why people may be disappointed in the single is because... its not really like their older stuff...
i mean.. when i first heard it, i kinda had to double check to see if i was listenin to the right band =P but i really do like the single... each three song has a very distinctive style that is unlike the other... which may... just take some time getting use to?
but yea... i liked the single =) and i definitely have to say that i LOVE 'screen' that song is soo beautiful!
 
I like the new single and i have to say I really, really L O V E the PV~ it's sooooooooooo awsome
 

I think you're right. I do see a lot of people complaining about how it doesn't sound like their other stuff. But my view is, I'd hate for a band to always stay the same. I admire D'espairsRay for bringing a new sound to their music. I mean, to me Squall still has the D'espairsRay "feel" to it. So, if they can change up their style every now and then, and make it sound good, I'm VERY happy with that. :3

And yeah, I'm sure some people will change their minds about it (while others will undoubtedly remain hating it). Hell, I didn't like Kogoeru yoru ni saita hana the first few times I heard it, so I just didn't listen to that particular song for awhile. When I went back to it, I loved it and couldn't figure out why I didn't like it in the first place. XD So yeah, things like that happen.

I really like Squall as a single (although not really so keen on the actual title song). But that's not because it's bad as such - just that style of music isn't really to my taste. It's lighter and more cheerful in feeling to D'espa's previous music, and although it's okay, it doesn't have anything that makes it stand out IMO.

I really like Desert. I've only listened to it once so I can't entirely remember why... >.<... XD. I like the heavyish punchy opening and the riff, I like the way it's not so cheerful (XD) and I like the contrast between the heavier sections and the bits of clear singing.

I also really like Screen. I think this is the most ballady song D'espa have ever made, isn't it? It works well, it shows they are capable of doing something lighter and more melodic without 'going pop', and Hizumi's voice is fantastic on it. *_*

All in all, it's a lighter-toned single to most of their work, but although IMO that doesn't work for the title track, on balance it's good because it proves that they're not just a one trick pony. I have to say, if they'd just produced something like Coll:Set or Kogoeru again I might have thought they didn't have anything else up their sleeves or were stagnating. So props to them for a bit of variety. ^^"
 
Well, I suppose I kind of already said my thoughts on Squall in my previous post, but I will say, Kinsao, that it's surprising to me that you feel it is more "cheerful" sounding, just because I feel like it's very sad when I'm listening to it, even if musically it is on the lighter side. ^-^; As for the other two:

Desert: Having Squall and Desert together reminds me of the Kogoeru single in that they kind of busted out a totally different style with Kogoeru, and then when people started spazzing about it, were like "wait wait wait, we still have stuff like this- *cue Maze*" XD Or something like that. Yeah, I think Desert is a nice B-side. Just goes to show you that they may be reaching into new styles with other tracks, but they can still do harder tracks like this quite well. I especially like the part which starts around 2:50. All in all, an interesting contrast to Squall and Screen.

Screen: I also think Screen is wonderful. I was very surprised by it when I first heard it, as it is a very Hizumi-focused song with all the synthed music to go with him. Still though, as it is a song that both Tsukasa and Karyu wrote, I appreciate that they kind of "took the risk" in writing something so different.

Bluuuuh...that's all I can think of off the top of my head, but if more stuff comes to me, as I'm sure it will, I'll just say more about it later. XD

(Mirror side-note: on CDJapan, the firstpress of the limited edition has sold out with preorders, and it's even been on their daily top ten a few times in the past couple weeks!! Go Despa!)

Yeah, and today they're #1 on the daily CD ranking! I'm so happy for them (well, for their CDJapan sales at least XD ).

Just a little over a week, and Mirror will be out! Can't wait! : D
 
^wow I totally lost track of time. I pre-ordered my copy last month and now it's almost time to get it!! yay!! I can't wait to hear their new songs. And i'm so excited that screen is on the album. I really like that song.
 
Yeah, I'm really interested to see how Screen is going to fit on the album. Plus I'm just excited for more new stuff in general, of course. X3

Thank God I'm not behind on homework, for once, so I'll acually have time to invest to really listen to it well next weekend. XD
 
I can't wait to hear what the new album will be like! I hope it's different from Coll:Set - but with the new single having a different atmosphere, I think the album will be, as well.

D'Ray's international fanclub -- semi-news

WHOO! My first post on this forum! ^_^b

Anyway, thought I'd pass along this bit of info....

I emailed Sword Records for any news on the fanclub and they were kind enough to reply in both english and japanese, actually. The email was a lot of "thank yous for your support" and "we apologize for the inconvenience", but this is the gist:

They are indeed still working on opening the fanclub overseas. They have received many requests and wish to "cater the best service to all of us". They know there's a large demand, so we just need to be patient a little longer. They're obviously working out all the logistics. And I'm sure things were a little nutty in their office with the planning for the Spiral Staircase tour and the "acquisition" of Vidoll.... @_@

I know it's been 3 months since it opened, but it's something, ya know?

Hey there, I'll assume you're the same person who posted this in despairsray_fan earlier? (I'm Michiko-kitsune there too). Thanks again for getting the info around. I can't wait until the internatioinal fanclub is finally set up!
 
hahaha Yeah, that's me... ^_^ I'm just glad to learn it isn't a dead issue, and I'm working on getting the word out just for that reason.
 
Yeh I read that too. ..apparently there's a big discussion about it all now
 
That's good, then. As long as people continue to show interest in the international fanclub...then maybe they'll hurry it up. XD
 
anyone listen to Mirror yet?

i'm waiting until my copy comes to listen to it but downloads are already available on LJ and such.
