Degree that grants the highest probability of a career?

I wasn't sure to put this in Studying or Working, so please excuse me if this topic doesn't belong here.

This is a question mostly out of curiosity, (I'm interested in how Japanese business/society works, especially when foreigners are concerned) but what kind of degree provides the best chance for a foreigner to get a permanent job/career at a Japanese company? I know any degree works for teaching, but most don't turn teaching English into a career I think, most people only do a few years at a school, NOVA, etc and then move onto something else or go back to the USA. I'm thinking business or some sort of computer degree, but of course I don't know.

Depends sooo much on the company. With just a degree you aren't going to get far - experience counts as you are going into a completely foreign environment.

In the end they don't care that much when its just a plain degree - a doctorate would be a different case.

But as a graduate intake surely experience wouldn't be that high in demand (though useful) if you've only just come out of Uni.

It would seem that a person's ability to speak and read Japanese would have to be a big factor in living and working in many fields.

I don't about Japan, but companies at least in Mexico and in the U.S. of A. are starting to fight over people with degrees in Fine Arts. What the heck, a Fine Arts major over an MBA in a banking career?, you might ask, well, this is because companies now want people who are creative and bring solutions to problems. Computers soon will do what any engineer does and the next big thing is a career that brings out the creativity that's waiting to come out of you.

Great point, plus in many Japanese companies they do not hire employees based upon what there field of study was in rather the college that they graduated from.

I know of guys that graduated with degrees in law and are working for the telephone company in the sales department.
