Last night I tried, after much desperate yearning, daifuku buns! The first I set eyes on the delectable looking red-bean cakes was in the anime Fruits Basket when Tohru Honda serves daifuku buns as a snack. 👍
I had tried adzuki bean shaved ice once before, and I have a recipe for adzuki bean squares (from a European cookbook. The people lived in Japan for some time). But the daifuku continued to be elusive in their nature. Then, at the heavenly medley of the Korean market there they were, practically glowing in a neat row of "aka", "shiro", "kure goma" and "shiro goma" daifuku buns.
Okay, so maybe I make it look like I'm on the edge of creating some new-fangled radical Japanese dessert cult (sounds sort of interesting, actually)...But....but...hey! Does anyone else share a fascination with/love for, this exotic delight? Know how to make it? Is it hard? 😌

Daifuku buns are the one item i make sure to buy every time i shop at my favorite Asian market, i love to eat them just as a casual snack but also as part of a celebration (birth days and other such parties), i believe i first heard of them on a documentary i saw once. I would love to try making them.

Gacktpause, did you know you can buy just the red bean filling in a can (whole beans or paste form)? I like to buy the filling and put it on biscuits or graham crackers, spread it on cakes like frosting, etc. try it, it can go with anything that suites your taste.
 
Sugoi! No, I was not aware that you could buy just the red bean filling. I'd like to find out how to make it--it's so delicious! Unfortunately I don't have an Asian grocery store near by, but armed with this excellent new information, I'll keep my eye out for this precious product.

Glad i could help Gacktpause, sorry you don't have an Asian market around, i hope you manage to find some way to buy it. Maye you could look for an online source?
 
Ahhh-- culinary wisdom may yet prevail. I might just try making the adzuki paste, as I do have a recipe for something that's at least the same idea. Wish me luck, onegai shimasu!

mmm...daifuku buns are the best!
I always get them when I go to the asian grocery store!
 
Daifuku buns rock!They make the perfect snack whenever i feel like munching.
But I don't oftenly eat them..kinda hard to get.
Wish I could make them instead of praying so that there are some at the mall..
