Tokyo officials were thrilled to learn that the Japanese capital had been named the world's best large city by U.S. travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo secured the top spot in Condé Nast Traveler's 2024 reader survey, receiving 575,048 votes. This marks the sixth time Tokyo has claimed the number one position in the survey, which began in 1988. Singapore, Sydney, Cape Town, and Vienna ranked in the top five.

Condé Nast Traveler, a magazine catering to affluent readers, provides information on travel destinations, accommodations, dining, shopping, and other luxury experiences. Its U.S. edition boasts a readership of approximately 3.5 million. Officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs attribute Tokyo's success to a strategic focus on promoting the city's food, culture, vibrant nightlife, and strong safety record. These efforts have successfully attracted high-spending international tourists.
