Certificate of Eligibility

Hi! Does somebody has the knowledge of how to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility? I want to bring my 8 year old daughter with me when I go to Japan to live with my spouse, a Japanese national I married last year. I am just worried if I can be allowed to bring my child even if she is of not my spouse's daughter. And what are the possibilities do I have to expect.

Hello Lenshi, I think what you are looking for is the CoE under "Spouse or child of a Japanese national, Permanent resident, etc."

I'm not sure if your daughter also qualifies, but if she is on your spouse's family registry then I think your daughter can apply under the same CoE. If not, I am unsure and maybe she would qualify as a dependent: http://www.moj.go.jp/content/000052354.pdf

But in either case I would have your spouse ask about it at the local immigration office. They can help you with finding the proper CoE and visa status.

Since she is NOT your wife's child, you will probably have to opt for the dependent visa, where YOU are the sponsor. You have a work visa or spousal visa now, don't you?
