Not sure if this is the best forum for this question, but is anyone living/working in Japan using an iPad? I just got one and am looking around for interesting/useful apps for foreigners in Japan. Not only for studying, but also train schedules, movies, TV, games, fun stuff. I have found the major ones but was wondering if anyone here has any special links/tips/suggestions?

Are you using the Japan iTunes store and searching for apps in Japanese? That's usually the best way to turn up what you want.

Thanks, Mike. Yes, it defaults to the Japan store and I've searched in both Japanese and English. As I noted, I've found some good dictionaries, etc.

Here's what I'm using so far (Japan / Japanese-related):

Dictionaries

JEDict Lite
Midori
Kotoba!
kotobank (it says it's possible to dl プログレッシブ英和・和英中辞典 through it, but their "Store" leads to a blank page....)
Yahoo辞書

Train Schedules
Jorudan乗換案内

Any suggestions? Not sure what I'm really looking for, I guess - just wondering if anyone found anything useful / fun / especially interesting to us living and working here...

Sort of depends on what you do, I guess.

I have several map, navi, and gps recording apps which come in handy, as well as a couple that show traffic conditions.

I also have a neat little calculator app that converts between the western calendar and the years based on the reigns of emperors. Handy if you need it; useless if you don't.

RedLetterMedia. It doesn't really have anything to do with Japan, but it's great anyways.

Best English-Japanese dictionary is called Japanese around 1600 yens on the App store
Best navigation (getting directions) --> hyperdia.com you can get the App from there but I recommend the web page!

Hi, I'm an indie developer and created a free learning app for your iPhone/iPod. It also works on your iPad.

It's free and it's fun. Download it and let me know what you think!

Thanks.

Don't copy-paste spam your stuff all over the forum.

Hi Mike,

Sorry! I guess I was excited to promote my first language learning app. :-(
If you think my posts aren't appropriate, feel free to moderate/remove them.

Have a good day,
Ron
