Basically, I want to know, in the UK, if there is a way to take the examination without taking the course. I have the money to do it, but I live in the North West of England but SOAS is only in London, so I wouldn't be able to take the course (Although I could get down for an exam)

I want to be able to take the examination but home study. Is there any way around this?

If you do study JLPT, but you don't know the answer to this, please ask your teachers if there is a way.

It's more of a UK specific question this, but please answer if you know!

Thanks

Joe

I'm not sure about what you mean by course, but as far as I know the JLPT is only an exam. You don't need to do anything else than registering for it.

Yeah I thought so too.. And I remember London was the only place where you can take the exam in the UK.

I 2nd that..

JLPT test are always being held somewhere around christmas holidays if im not mistaken, so you may be able to take the trip if you are really eager to take the trip. They dont have JLPT tests in my country (Belgium) so London would be the best alternative for me..

Thank you.

Another question, anybody know how old you have to be to take the exam. My younger cousin has been learning Japanese for a while, and he is 15. Is he old enough to take the exam.

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure there's no age limit on the JLPT exams. I heard a few 10 year olds doing it last year.
I'm studying with the JLPT text book, but I'm not sure whether I'll take the exam or not yet. We'll see. I'm also quite a way away from Londom (Newcaslte), I wish there were japanese classes up here!
Feel free to PM me if you want to chat, night to know someone close(ish) is studying too.

Hi !

I'm from Belgium and last year I took the JLPT level 4 in London. London was the closest city for me, so I took the trip and stayed for the weekend.

I believe the test is organised the first sunday of December and I'm planning on taking the level 3 this year. I don't know if there is a course that you can follow. I just made sure I covered everything that's to be studied for the level 4.
