alien registration card?

hi guys

I need some info about this card.
ok, so what is it in the first place? i heard its about extending your stay or something?
how do you obtain it?
do you need to be in some particular status like married or already have a visa??

I am curently residing in japan, and i have a girlfriend. i have been here twice, so i cannot come here anymore for this year. I can only stay 6 months in one year. SO how the hell am i gonna see my girlfriend again, am I OBLIGATED to not see my girlfriend for the rest of the year what is this bullshit? if somebody knows a way plz if you got the time to post plz tell me.
isnt their any visa for partners that have a relationship in japan, dont they think about THAT sort of things? damn i am pist.

No, there's not such thing as a Boyfriend Visa. Get married or move on.

You're not currently "residing" in Japan; you're currently "visiting" Japan. Until you're here on something other than a tourist visa, the alien registration doesn't apply to you. It is something you get after you have a visa other than a tourist visa. It has no relation to extending your visa.

By the way I do not know this guy, and he's not me, I just found this by inputting 'gaijin card' into Google Image Search.

Anyway to obtain one you need to have a working visa which entitles you to not just visit but gain employment in the country. The visa is issued via an employer in conjunction with the Japanese government before arriving so you can properly clear customs, demonstrating the necessity of your presence within the country and workforce. I got mine through the school I was teaching at for example while being hired here at home.

Unfortunately it sounds as if your tourist/visitor visa is used up. Having a girlfriend is not enough of a reason to stay in the country as far as the Japanese government is concerned. As honourable as your intentions are you can see how that would leave the system open to wide-spread abuse by others. Your options would be to return to your country of origin and seek employment from there, to find a job while in Japan and have that company handle the process, etc.

From the original post it sounds like you can only enter Japan twice in a year or what? Is there a limit as to how many times you can enter Japan. I only ask because I am going back the end of June coming back sometime in August and will probably go back in late November or December. My husband goes back because of business, and I tag along to visit family and friends.

I think if you are married to a Japanese National, (did your husband give up his Japanese citizenship?) you shouldn't have a problem.

Though I didn't know it wasn't necessary at the time, I got a registration card, twice... But this was when things were going somewhat better for myself and now ex-gf, and I thought we might get married... This however, did not come to fruition. Even my interpreters when I returned (and was disallowed entry, justly), believed that I was lying when I said that I had planned to apply for a spousal visa, plan the wedding and what not, and thought that I had already applied. That wasn't good, but it really didn't make much difference in the end.

You wouldn't have a problem even if your husband was not a Japanese national "residing" for less than 90 days per stint on a tourist visa (aka American passport). I have gone five or six re-entries a year in the past so there may be a limit, definately to what we can all humanly withstand, but also by Immigration. It's just apparently something higher than that.

He's a Japanese citizen. I am nothing there yet, our marriage hasn't been entered in his family register because of some translation errors. The embassy called and we are going to Chicago to get that fixed. Great answers as always!

Not entirely accurate. People on working visas aren't the only ones who are required to have an alien registration card. Anyone who is on other than a tourist visa (i.e. period of stay longer than 90 days, ignore the tourist visa extension thingy) must have one.

Thats why i don't like to go to Japan,

you can only go twice in a year to see your girlfriend what a shame if i want to see her there.

in my country you may come as much as you want but the law of the philippines say you may only stay(resident) for +/- 2 until 4,5 months
