I guess I'll give a quick run down:
I'm a mid-twenty year old teacher who is currently hauling herself between Toyota City/Nagoya, Aichi-ken and Delaware County, PA about every four or five months because of my husband's job. I grew up in southwestern Idaho, in a tiny farming town of 1400 people.
I've been interested in Japan since I was a small child; of my mom's four best friends from high school, two of them are Japanese Americans. One of them lives currently in Osaka. So I spent a lot of time hanging around with the Japanese-Americans near where I grew up, going to the local temple's Obon Matsuri and hearing old Japanese stories from the obaa-sans. My dad is also interested in Asian and Japanese culture and taught me even from an early age judo and shotokon karate. I even took 'classical culture' and dharma classes with my friends while growing up.
Of course, history has always been a big thing. And now its what I teach, my area of specialty being Asian history. I wrote my second thesis in undergrad about Japanese definitions of nationalism. I'm currently writing my dissertation on the influence of Aichi, Gifu and Mie prefectures on the overall culture and history of Japan.
Well, that was a lot. I guess I'll stop blabbing now.
