Apologies if the comment was taken that way, but that wasn't my intention. But I shouldn't have had to explain further - the simple point here is that I never intended on buying anything to learn the language, and that's what I stated.
 
Want a good site? Jplang. But I don't know if it will be good for complete novice without any tutor.

Being a native speaker I cannot tell whether it is good or not from experience, but as far as I take a look at many pages of this site, it does not seem to be too complicated and give a lot of examples, I think it will be helpful for learners, especially for beginners.
