Disaster predictions from a 1999 manga have influenced travel plans to Japan among people in Hong Kong as the claims gain traction on social media platforms. Posts circulating on social networks and video-sharing sites warn of impending disasters in Japan, with some users saying they are reconsidering or cancelling their trips. Much of the attention centres on the 2021 "complete edition" of Watashi ga mita mirai ("The Future I Saw"), a manga by artist Tatsuki Ryo (たつき諒). Despite the growing concern online, Tatsuki has urged the public to remain calm.

Perhaps we've stumbled upon a solution to reduce the tourism that they keep complaining about. Every major tourist area that wants fewer tourists such as Kyoto should invest in disaster manga that depicts terrible devastation and havoc on the city.

Can someone remind me why we shouldn't be concerned? Replies from J-residents and people travelling in Japan in July 2025 preferred.

On a more serious note:

Don't forget that a terrible disaster will strike the world on July 5th and that the Land of the Rising Sun Will Sink Under a Godzilla-level tidal Wave.

I hope we'll still be here on the 6th of June. Bear with us.

You mean something along the lines of this?

FYI, those are scenes from the movie "Sinking of Japan" 「日本全部沈没」
That was a serious disaster movie. In another thread I posted the trailer to a spoof movie based off of this one. That movie's name was "Sinking of the World Except Japan" 日本以外全部沈没」.

Some people are so superstitious/gullible. I have some crystal-energerised, homeopathic, magic beans for sale if any of those people would like to contact me.

The results will be announced at 4:18 a.m. on July 5, 2025, so please be mindful when you go to sleep tonight.

I saw that at the cinema! It had that guy Kusanagi from SMAP in it, who had the most wooden acting I've ever seen!

Just wanted to reassure everyone that we are still here. So far, so good.

Jack Adelstein on the end of the world:

It's good to know your ghost can still post and run things here after that giant disaster!

Japanese authorities confirmed today that an earthquake that rattled small islands in the country's southwest on Saturday was in no way connected to a manga author's disaster prediction that went viral on social media and even affected inbound tourism.

What a relief.

How do they know that? It was clearly a correct psychic prediction, as are all psychic predictions.
