MFL... Most of the posts on here are extremely well informed and most likely will be giving you more information than you even need at this point.

I myself was home schooled. Yes, it limits your contacts initially; however, you will gain knowledge in other areas as well. What you expose yourself is up to you and your own motivation and drive. Yes, you're 14 still so don't put too much pressure on yourself. No one knows about themselves at 14 and you're not supposed to.

You might think "Damn, I wish I lived in Japan a bit" so you could know Japanese or who knows what, but keep in mind this one thing. You don't need to know what you want to do or how to do it yet and you don't need to plan everything out. You're in America, not Japan. That is probably the single most asinine aspects of education in Asia: the idea that you have to plan out your future and career with no idea about it.

Please consider the advice of those on here, and also consider this simplification. You're 14 and you have plenty of time and the whole world open to you. Home schooling (despite what many say) has huge benefits when it comes to knowledge and education as well as a few downsides. One of the benefits is freedom of study at an early age. If you are serious, if you are interested in Japan, start educating yourself. Check into language classes nearby, or get the Genki book series and the listening CD's and start. It is a long road ahead of you as it is with everyone. It isn't about getting to the goal though, so don't let that discourage you.

Take advantage of the time and the situation you are in. Things will open to you. Especially when you hit college. That is when your study skills and ability to focus (assuming you put forth and effort) will shine.

But remember, you're still just a kid Enjoy it and keep enjoying it. Want to learn something, then pick up a book and look into the path to learning it. That is the true benefit of home schooling, so take advantage of it.

I can relate to you, really. When I was your age I had pretty much the same dreams as you. Seriously, I wanted to move to Japan and become a famous musician. I had my heart set on it, I didn't care if people thought I was crazy, I spent hours writing music on the piano. I wasn't a very good singer but I tried as hard as I could to hit notes like Utada and Ayumi. I told myself I was going to do this. So when I was a junior in high school I spent a year in Japan as an exchange student, you know, so I could kind of "test Japan out" to see if I could handle living there.

And you know what?

It opened my eyes.

All the opportunities, I loved the Japanese entertainment industry and I wanted to be there, but not from a musician's point of view, I took interest in the business side of it all.

I thought maybe someday I could be working for a recording label like AVEX. Best time of my life by far. So here I am now 18 years old majoring in International Business and Japanese, and Japan is going to be playing a big part in my future. Maybe I got a little off topic but my point is: follow your heart and do what feels right. Don't let anyone stop you and don't listen if they say you'll never make it. I think if you're really passionate about this, you could make it.

Good luck with finding a record label!! I have to agree, it's going to be hard finding a Japanese company that will take you (based on if they can even understand you) when you know absolutely no Japanese. However, I'm on kind of the same search. Only difference is I have some stuff recorded (+ have been learning Japanese for about 4 years), and got my first reply from a label today, actually. If you'd like some help, do send me a PM or something ^^
