借りぐらしのアリエッティ　The Borrower Arrietty

If you haven't heard, Studio Ghibli is coming out with its next film, 借りぐらしのアリエッティ (English title: "The Borrower Arriety"). This time around it won't be directed by Hayao Miyazaki, instead, Hiromasa Yonebayashi will be making his debut. Don't worry, though, since Mr. Miyazaki will still be helping out, just not directing. I, for one am really excited. I always enjoy the childish yet mature nature of Ghibli's films. I love their animation style and can't wait to see it! What do you all think?

By the way, just out of curiosity, what does ぐらし in this context mean? I tried looking it up, including as one whole word and couldn't find anything on it. I know 借りる means "to borrow" but can't for the life of me figure out what ぐらし is doing here. Thanks for your help and input.

Look up the words, くらす & くらし. The く becomes ぐ when it is used as the latter half of a compound word.

Example : わたし は せまくて きたない アパート で ひとりぐらし を しています。いつか 金もち に なって、もっと いい くらし を したい です。

Ah, thanks for the help. I would have never thought it was くらす.

Your example sentences say:
I'm living alone in a cramped and dirty apartment. Someday when I become rich I want to live a better life.

right?

The title reminded me of something else and checked... So, it's based on The Borrowers!

I've seen the BBC series on TV with my kids and the American version, too. I wonder how different it is coming from Ghibli....?

That voicing is called 連濁[rendaku].
