My friend in Japan was teaching me this word "shiranpuri" he said it means "stand up please" or something. He told me it was an old word. Then, he went on about "shiranai furi" and "shiranai mane" He said Puri is pretend or something like that. I picked up as much Japanese as I could. But, I am still confused. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

＿＿＿ふりをする means to pretend to do something. This is an invaluable phrase because you can say tons of interesting and funny things with it.

英語が分からないふりをする to pretend not to be able to understand English
おいしいふりをする to pretend something is delicious
いしゃのふりをする to pretend to be a doctor

The possibilities are endless. In this case he probably said 'to pretend not to know'. しらんぷり is a shortened form (according to my dictionary). I imagine you can say 知らんぷりをする to say 'to pretend not to know'
