News M5.9 quake hits Noto peninsula

This morning, strong earthquakes struck Japan's north-central region of Ishikawa, an area previously hit by a fatal quake on January 1. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a magnitude 5.9 quake occurred near the northern tip of the Noto Peninsula. Shortly afterwards, a tremor of magnitude 4.8 was also recorded. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that there was no danger of a tsunami resulting from these earthquakes. Additionally, there have been no reports of damage or injuries. As reported by JR West, most public transportation services are operating normally.

We received very unsettling earthquake alarms on our smartphones and through the PA system in our area but didn't feel anything central Kanto.

I cycled that area up there. It is mostly coutryside. I do hope not much damage too place.

We were still in bed/futon, but the phones going off is kind of a wake up call. The quake arrived just after the alert. Not much shaking here, 2 or maybe a 3 (but 3 is doubtful). Big splash in the evening paper, mostly up at the the end/tip of the peninsula.

It seems the phone alert went out to a pretty big area, places pretty far away.
