Two festivals in the Hida region of Gifu attracted record crowds:

In the picturesque Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, spring arrived in a blaze of glory during the recent two-day Spring Takayama Festival, also known as the Sanno Matsuri (山王祭). Against a backdrop of 11 resplendent floats, wind-up dolls danced atop three of them, captivating the eyes of approximately 188,000 spectators. The festival, held in the heart of central Japan's Takayama city on 14 and 15 April, also drew foreign tourists who eagerly captured the enchanting scenes with their cameras.

The Furukawa Festival of Hida was held for the first time in five years. The festival revolves around two contrasting themes: 'stillness' and 'motion.' The latter is vividly embodied by a mighty taiko drum procession featuring 'half-naked men in loincloths'.
