yukata color question

Hi there! I spent a year studying abroad in japan last year, and before that I had been once to meet relatives. I've recieved yukata more than once, but the nicest one I ever recieves was Grey with a dark red obi and bow. the pattern is dragonflys. This was a gift from the japanese rotary club, and selected by a woman who was particularly fond of me, but she was almost 60, and I'm barely even 18.

Most the girls I know have pink or blue yukata, but is it weird for a young girl to wear a yukata that's this colors? (I'd ask my family, but I don't want them to know that I want to wear this one for my senior photos and not the purple one they gave me).

I just wondered if people would be like "why is she wearing an old lady yukata?" or is it just that this yukata is more traditional? Thanks!

I think it is no problem for a girl to wear yukata in grey, especially when obi is red, it sounds very nice. I'm sure you'll look chic in it!

In fact, pink or blue is NOT traditional either - recently there are so many different colours.
Traditional yukata is patterns in dark indigo on the white background (or the other way round) sometimes with a dash of red here and there. But now there are many "modern" patterns are available, with various design.
Young girls wearing in quiet colours such as grey, black, indigo, brown is Edo (not Tokyo) style.

That's a relief^^. I was hoping the explanation would be something like that.

I thought maybe the choosers age might have something to do with it. I bet she thought that pink and blue would be too childish or not traditional enough.
