Will Microsoft Acquire Sony?

I think Microsoft are looking at other technology companies not only Sony. They have lots of money to buy different kinds of companies

I cant see Microsoft wanting to buy out Sony, but in an ever changing electronic market who knows what could happen if Sony loses more of its market share. As for Blu-Ray I did read not so long ago that hackers had completely hacked Blu-Ray technology and were using it for their own means, so I reckon that Sony will one day realise that Blu-Ray is a major mistake.

As to who could take over Sony, I reckon that Nindendo may start buying shares in Sony and that maybe one day Sony will be owned by Nintendo. But the name of Sony will still continue, but not in the area of games consoles.

I don't think Microsoft will buy Sony. If Sony ever gets in trouble then what will most likely happen is other Japanese companies, banks will take over parts of it instead.

exactly. sony shares are valuable. Subaru and Mazda had the same thing happen to them. Mazda though owned by ford, has 0 relation with the company when it comes to cars or parts. Subaru was partially owned by Toyota for financial reasons.

Same thing with Squaresoft back when their final fantasy movie flopped. Sony bought the company to save them from going under. Squaresoft recovered and bought themselves back.

situation is different at Sony; the CEO is not Japanese

I can see why this is an issue seeing the Sony has entered pop culture. Reminds me of how the English became so emotional during the demise of Rover. However the idea that Sony is in freefall is pure paranoia. Just to recap on some themes in this thread: Sony has lost its quality edge to the likes of Apple. i.e. lower quality products aimed at the mass market compared to high quality premium priced products from the likes of Apple. I agree. Enter the Ps3, which is the perfect cure to this brand erosion. A high quality expensive exclusive product. Corse people aren't going to be able to buy it straight off the bat - its a loss leader product. Thats the point. The Ps3 is here to demonstrate technical prowess meaning there is more kudos in Sony products across the board and thats where the return will be realised.

The Ps3 is a long term strategy! therefore the payback is clearly long term also. Winning the battle 4 blue-ray is a case of killing to birds with one stone. Even with slow uptake, this format is available and growing. Sony should be congratulated 4 taking the risks they did as opposed to letting other brands piss over its territory. Risk averse Japanese conservatives will smacked by Smiths invisible hand.

apologies 4 the kack grammar btw

The PS3 is not your everyday console, it was meant for at least 1.5 console generation, if not 2. It will bloody outlast the Xbox360 and Wii, it bloody will. Wii is practically a shiny toy, its cheap, its "fun" but it has no depth, as for the Xbox360... im going to be harsh, but its a joke, although an average console when you look at its details, but a heap of trash otherwise, as it has a HUUUUGGEEE fail rate, some say its somewhere around one fourth. On the other hand, it may be modded, it has an armada of games, which the PS3 does not, nor can it be modded... but... BUT, Sony knows something, Sony knows that gamers, the passionate ones, not the casual gamers who buy a Wii for their children and play it with them once a month, want exclusives, and God, the PS3 has the exclusives.
Now let me begin the list:

Heavenly Sword
Lair
Probably the new Devil May Cry
Shin Megami Tensei (probably Persona)
FF XIII and XIII Versus
Warhawk

check here for the whole list: Ps3land.com

NOW DEAR PEOPLE

Sony has all the RPG's an RPG player might desire, how, i ask myself, how can Sony fail with these exclusives? Sony is made of pure win dear audience, its meant to prevail.

the question is not does microsoft want to aquire sony the question is, will sony let them?

Sony better not let it, if i were in lead, i'd some assassin to cut off the dirty hands of Billy Boy.

why would a company like sony even consider it this thread has no meaning. Microsoft will probably never get its hands on sony.

Is it true that in Japan they refer to Matsushita as Makeshita?

Where are you exactly getting this information?
First of all, when Stringer was managing Sony Corporation of America, the holding company of Sony Pictures (Columbia), Sony Music, Playstation and Electronics in America, the U.S. side of the larger corporation saw the greatest profits.
The "mismanagement" you mention of Sony Corp (now), seems more a effect of dealing with the mistakes of his predecessor, Idei, who basically was completely clueless. AIWA, Aibo, and QUALIA (all decisions under Idei) were money-pits. Also, the decision to not get into LCDs earlier was during his watch (though, in fairness, it was bitterly campaigned by the heads of the TV group, citing the technology as inferior to that of CRTs in terms of picture quality).
As for Blu-ray being developed years ago, yes, this is true, but it was being produced under the original name of ProDATA.
Some of the other discussions here seem to equate the game divisions success/failure with that of the overall company. While it does contribute, it hardly represents the lion share of the profits all of the time.
