Visa question

I'm currently applying for a language school (starting October) while being in Tokyo. I go back to my country end of June but I would like to come back as soon as possible (begin September - 1 month before school starts).

I think that I have to take my visa personaly at my local Japanese embassy but I'm not sure ? If so, when does it normaly get ready ? And to they already stamp it on my passport ? So when I already have my college visa (starting October) before september begins, I can stay in Japan starting september on a temporary visa. Do I have to leave the country begin october so my student visa starts working ?

Hey, it's Golden Week, and I've been out of town. Many others are probably in the same boat.

Apply for your visa while you are in Japan, and I think you are not allowed to leave the country, or you invalidate the application. Confirm that with immigration. You apply at immigration in Japan, or through the Japanese embassy/consulate in your home country (which routes the form to immigration).

You need a sponsor, of course (your school), in order to apply. You actually apply for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) first, which goes to the school, then to you. That takes about 4-8 weeks, depending. Earlier if you are darned lucky.

So when I already have my college visa (starting October) before september begins, I can stay in Japan starting september on a temporary visa. Do I have to leave the country begin october so my student visa starts working ?

You get the visa, and you have limited time to get your butt here before it is invalid. Come, and the clock starts ticking the moment you touch Japanese soil.

But I have to leave the country by end of June right (I also don't plan to spend the summer in Japan) ? that's when my temporarily visitors visa runs out. So when im back in my home country by the end of June, I should apply at my local Japanese embassy right ? Will the visa process be ready by october if I do this ?

So, you're here with a Temp visa that expires in June, right? You will have to leave then, of course, unless there is some way to get it extended. I don't know about that, so ask immigration.

If so, then, yes, you leave Japan, then apply for the student visa. Allow enough time for processing before the October term starts. If it's anything like work visas, it'll take a couple of months. Of course, you'll need to be accepted by the school, which means you have to prove you can pay for the courses.

Homerduff man you are so lucky you are in Japan now man, Watched any episodes of Lost In Tokyo before you left? Man it's pity I can't join you since I have still school here. Middelbare school...... ahum well I agree with Glenski!

Leave Japan then apply for the Student's Visa. It's better if you do it mid August begin September because then you are sure you can leave asap in September!

Yes I am, and I'm not planning to get it extended.

So if my pre college visa is ready in september, I can come back at that time and my pre college visa will start running ?

You probably have a time limit on when you can come to Japan after the visa is issued. Maybe 1-3 months. I don't know the exact period. If anyone else here has a student visa, perhaps they can tell you.

Coming in September means coming in the middle of the school year, by the way. This may mean nothing or everything.
