Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) is launching a new medical interpreter training course next spring to address the increasing need for language professionals in healthcare. The eight-month program, which will focus on English, Chinese, and Vietnamese, will be offered in partnership with the Institute of Science Tokyo. Approximately 30 students are expected to enroll. The course will blend online learning with in-person practical training at the Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital. Online lectures will take place on Saturdays starting in April, while on-site training sessions are scheduled for August and December. To be eligible, applicants must have a university degree and advanced proficiency in Japanese and one of the three target languages. The curriculum will cover various subjects, including medical terminology, medical science, interpreter ethics, and Japanese cultural diversity policies.
