Time to get focused

I'm currently a second-year college student majoring in linguistics and Japanese. I feel like I have a very good understanding of the structure of Japanese (my LIN classes help), but I'm afraid to say I don't feel that fluent yet, mostly because up until now I've sort of overloaded myself with other classes and have had to neglect serious study of Japanese to keep up. However I do plan to practice a lot this summer, so it seemed like a good idea to register here. Luckily my written Japanese is actually pretty good, and hopefully writing in it more often will help me think of sentences more spontaneously.

Anyway, just hoping to improve my Japanese a lot and maybe meet some fellow nihongoers along the path.

Welcome. I find linguistics and phonology fascinating, and they certainly helped my Japanese studies when I was actively learning (which was quite a while back). Now I'm casually looking at Korean, and I've found those classes to be all the more helpful. Looking forward to some interesting discussions on the subject.

Yeah, phonology is really interesting and I think teaching at least a little phonology along with Japanese would help new learners a lot with pronunciation. Thanks for the welcome though. Seems like a pretty nice community here.
