I hope this topic isn't too scarey for any of you, but does anyone have any good snake stories?

I was trying to determine how many poisonous snakes are common to Japan and I was seeing conflicting information, and not being able to read Japanese, couldn't be certain. This site http://homepage3.nifty.com/japrep/snake/ejaphebi.htm lists quite a few snakes, many of which look very similar to the copperheads, coral, rattlesnakes and water moccasins we have here (USA).

Well, I saw some snakes (common garter, most likely; don't worry, I've handled snakes before in class) on my campus and tried to grab them and have a look at them, but alas they escaped by grasp. Cute little bastards. That's about the only exciting snake-related incident that happened to me, though Still, even though this was a "scary snake" thread, they're just so adorable (well, the ones we've been looking at in class, at least) I had to share

There is only one poisonous variety here on Okinawa and it is the Habu. It is a very dangerous snake as the venom is extremely potent. They are not near as dangerous as the cottonmouth, or water moccasin. If you see one here usually the local police will be more than happy to come and collect it for you. I have seen three this year, one in my back yard. I caught that one and then called the police to come pick it up. As for the rest of Japan...I am sure you will get more answers later.
