Safe Haven

We are not puppets, we have our free will... and sometimes people choose to start wars and violence and s**t...

Anyway I'm straying from the topic of the thread... I really need to listen to the album...

If you go strictly by Christian belief there is no such thing as free will, which is very disturbing to me. I really don't like the idea of someone or something other then myself controlling my life. And what kind of person would make His children commit appalling acts of sin and mass genocide just to prove His point of "Look how much you need ME. Bow down to ME. Worship ME or I shall smite thee!" Isn't that just a bit narcissistic? Is that really the kind of God we need to be worshipping?

And yes, you do need to hear the album. I think it's my favorite by Hyde.

I think you're wrong Hyde, God can't be narcisstic girl! I mean, the only thing you know for sure that will happen and that is that you will die. There's nothing else decided, fate is what you make of it cos future is relative. Besides, God didn't say Worship me, etc. He gave us a choicw what to do with our lives, being a better person is far better then worshiping, don't you think. Besides, it's not God bad, it's the people that are badn, evil and rotten. Only a man is capable for evil. Well, enough of that, if you guys say that album is so good, imma go check it out

omg, all this stuff about religion is sounding a LOT like my IAPS class at
the moment ... lol,

only thing you know for sure that will happen and that is that you will die
that is like straight out of my french teachers mouth ... its whats his names thinking ... crap, and i spent so long trying to memorise all this for tests!! and now all i can think of is socrates ...

omg, i so wanna get faith!!! but i can only get to it for friday! i need something to make my life happy at the moment!!! lol

personally, i dont really care what religion hyde is, as long as he doesnt try and make me believe it ... i am happily atheist thank u very much, although if u ask my family theyll say were ALL *including me* christian oh well, what doesnt kill u will make u stronger :angryfire *someone needs to make a muscleman smilie .. i was looking for it, but he doesn't exist!!! so sad!!*

I'm just talking about the Christian God. Do I really believe a God would be the way they (Christians) portray Him? No, certainly not. I would much rather think God/Goddess is far more forgiving and kind and doesn't have a spilt personality like the Christian God seems to. Although, you run into problems with the idea of a Higher Being no matter what (my mom and I were just talking about this) both moral and scientific. But that's a whole 'nother matter.
And God, the way he's shown in the "Great Black Book", is narcissistic. He needs us to bow down and kiss his Holy @$$ our else He will smite us down and send us to Hell to burn for eternity. Doesn't that sound just a bit selfish? Narcissistic? Or insecure even that he needs the whole world to say, "You're the greatest" I think we're getting at some underlying issues here *does the annoying therapist hold chin and nod thing*
And it's not free choice, it's blackmail. Oh, yeah, we can make our own choice, sure, but we'll be sent to Hell for not making the choice He wants us to. That isn't really freedom of choice at all. That's like saying you have the freedom to choose at gunpoint, you don't. That gun and God are trying to scare you into making the choice they want. You can deny them but at what cost? That is cruelty not freedom.

I'm a happy agnostic jk jk jk
Socrates O.O
you remined me that I have exams soon

I should really post this in the 'Hyde' thread I guess, but since this thread is for talking about Hyde too... I listened this morning to the first 2 songs off of Faith album (didn't have time to listen to anymore ), they are good! The first song rocks and I like the modulations and the piano in Jesus Christ.

I don't post in that thread. And since it's my mom's site and this is my thread I figured I'd put it here. Besides, I said from the word go that this thread was for ANYTHING to do with Hyde.

i didn't mean you should post in the 'Hyde' thread, I meant I should - to put my view on the album, that is. Not that I have much of a view yet; hope to have eventually though! Anyway, of course this is a thread for talking about Hyde!

What do you mean - God has a split personalty? Please explain. Btw, I truly support your believs in the previous two posts. We have a similar way of thinking. You go girl!

On the one hand God claims to be all forgiving and loving, kind and just a good guy but then he will turn around a smite down whole cities because they were "evil" but if he's forgiving shouldn't our level of "evilness" or "goodness" be a mute point? So it makes me wonder, which is it? Does he forgive indiscriminately or will he send all us sinners to Hell unless we prostrate ourselves before him and lick his @$$ and help inflate his already monstrous ego? Truly I want to know which it is. But even "God" himself doesn't seem to know and whenever I pin one of my uber-religious relatives in a corner and ask them they either blatantly refuse to answer or contradict themselves so many times it's laughable.
God seems to have multiple personalities or something, how else can someone be so extremely bipolar? Or maybe it's because human beings wrote the Bible and human beings make mistakes, twist things to say what they want, put words in others' mouths to make their own point. Perhaps that is why the Bible contradicts itself so many times; human error.

Thank you for that explanation. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know in which ways the Bible contadicts itself, since I have never read it. I know the stories and the basic concept, but that's all. Anyway, you made a few good points there.
I just hate the Christian way of interpreting human nature that says - God is good, people are evil and rotten, people need God to become good and go to Heaven. It makes absolutely no sense to me. I believe it is in human nature that we all aspire to be good, kind and accepted. People might stray, but we are in no way consciously EVIL, as Christians say.

EDIT: Hyde_is_my_anti-drug, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

did any of you actually read a bible?
if so than there would not be so much questions
not that i read it

Bible provides many answers to the wuestion you ask, and yes, it's true that people wrote it, but how many gospels did you read? Did you read "Dead sea scrolls"? Maybe you should research religion a bit more before you start attacking it. If there's anything you dislike its the way that Church, as an instituation, interpretates the bible, and the way people intertprate it. I don't think God wants as, as you put it "lick his ***", you have to think about the time when bible was made. How did the people live back then, maybe they needed aome guidelines in their life.
and about that Sodom and Gomor, did you actully read in the bible what does it say?
And if you think that the foundations of christianity are weak I suggest you to read "Holy blood and the Holy grail", I belive you will find that interesting Hyde_is_my_antidrug

Many of the gospels were rejected from the church, and they also rejected the first Adams wife, Lillith. Its not the God you have an attitude problem with, its the church

You might want to reconsider your wording when you say, "God claims..." I don't think "God" has ever claimed anything (at least not blatantly for the whole populous to take note); there's only what people say he has claimed. It's your choice whether you want to believe them or not.

In the beginning of your rant, you almost speak as if you had an intimate relationship with him that went sour; like you went through a messy break-up and now all that you feel towards him is this irate, caustic bitterness. I, for one, have never been graced by the divine presence of His Holiness, let alone claim to be his former mate/pal/friend/GF/what have you, so I can't speak with the same authority as you about who he is... if he is at all... or what he claims to be. It might not have been your intention to give off such an impression, so I'll just lay it on sloppy wording.

The level of credence people put in The Bible is laughable; to take everything so literally only tickles me more. On that point, I think we can both agree. (I also wouldn't judge "God" by the people (or institutions) who supposedly "represent" him.)

The thing that gets me, though, is how people can have the audacity to claim that because there are bad people in the world and because bad things happen, there is. No. God. Unless you're friggin' six feet under and meal for worms, you're (not a personal attack; just saying) no legit authority on the subject. Through personal experience, I've come to realize that there's this novel thing we humans possess called "free will": a freedom to do whatever the hell we please; when we please; because we please and because, dammit, we're not robots; we're not pre-programmed to do anything for anybody... This "Hell on Earth" we witness is none of "God"'s doing, but our own. We create our own Hell; we reap what we sow. "God" isn't responsible for our actions, we are. If "God" controlled what we did, what would be the point of living? Our lives are made up of the choices we make. Were I in "God"'s position, and my only companion was Nothing (pre-everything), I wouldn't want to engender a world and populate it with more Nothings (will-less capsules of flesh); I would want some form of willful interaction coming from the other end, not controlled, because when you receive emotion that is raw and unfettered, that's when it's most beautiful (yes; gag-inducing, but true nonetheless). When you love someone so much and to know that that love is reciprocated, sans omnipotent machinations, wouldn't that bring you an utter sense of peace; of happiness? I feel that if "God" does exist, he doesn't allow himself to intervene in our affairs because if he did, the whole point of our creation would be lost. Maybe if he did interfere (but who's to say he hasn't?) the depravity of humanity would manifest itself less... but then, so would the beauty...

Our fates are in our own hands, and we're just f*cking up. Big time. We need to change ourselves, not God. We're not so powerless (utterly stupid sometimes, maybe) and, I'll employ a cliche here, where there's a will there's a way. So start owning up people and stop moanin' and b*tchin' and complaining. "WAH, this world SUX! God is an illusion for the MEEK." *slitwrists* / "I can do whatever I want, because in the end, God will forgive meh! Whoo-wee!" *sodomizes little Bunny Fuu Fuu*

Well, if we're f*cking up so much, why doesn't he just wipe us out; start over? Yeh... kill your own babies and smash a couple of kittens for thrills while you're at it, Joe.... I'm sure that's what you feel like doing sometimes. *shrugs* Now I'm just rambling.... *readies for bed*

Okay, I have read the whole Bible many times, thank you very much. I'm not some ignorant fool who doesn't know of what she speaks. I grew up in a strict Christian home, I'm not some life-long Atheist passing judgment.

I don't claim to have/had any kind of "intimate" relationship with God. Matter of fact I do not feel close to Him at all and frankly never have (and thought I'd born in Hell for it for many a year).

I don't believe there is no God solidly, I just think there are problems with the idea of a Higher Being both moral and scientific. An Interventionalist God is disturbing in a moral way as is an Uninterventionalist God. But if there is no God how did we come into being? These are problems I see with the human concept of "God" but that doesn't mean I don't believe in the chance or possibility of a Higher Being.

Excuse me, but you people seem to have a view on Atheists that is completely wrong. You think all Atheists are IGNORANT FOOLS?! If you knew anything about the position of Church in my country you certainly wouldn't be saying this kind of crap. I took religious education in elementary school and didn't like it. I HAVE heard the stories from the Bible, but of course I don't remember all of them, that was like 10 years ago! I went to church regularly for a whole year when I was 16 because I was dating a fanatic who kept asking me to convert into his religion - that would be the reason I dumped him in the end. I stopped going when the priest did this ugly thing during the elections. He told the people present that if they are true Christians, they must vote for the candidate who supports the Church and their efforts to make abortion illegal. Now, this controversy continues to rise because the Church is getting more powerful in my country and womens' organisations are opposed to this because of violation of their rights. The Church is also trying to make a law about WOMENS' CLOTHING. They are planning to make women dress...i don't know the exact word, but I believe it is ''chastly'' (from CHASTITY or PRUDE). It is already a law in Krk. I think that this is SICK. The Church should have no such rights to affect the private lives of people, especially of non-Christians, who LIKE to have pre-marital sex, LIKE to use contraception, and dress whatever the hell they want. I'm sorry, I know my English is terrible, but I hope you get the message. And don't call Atheists ignorant, especially not me, because if I was ignorant I wouldn't even be trying to find out more and read this thread.

I was raised free to choose any religion for myself, and I know enough of Christianity to be certain that this is not the right religion for me. I'm better off Atheist.

Your beef is with the Church, not God.

What made the Church the authority on who God is and what he deems acceptable? We don't need to swallow their shite. We need to learn how to separate God from the Church (novel idea, isn't it?); they're two separate entities. If God is a God of free will, then the greatest sinner is the Church: controlling how people should dress, think, feel, etc.

EDIT:
I'm sure hyde would be thrilled to know that he has generated "thinking" in his fans. Kudos.
