Romantic Destinations in Japan?

Hello,

Anyone have any recommendations for a peaceful spot, fill of nature, not too crazy in the winter... destination in Japan?

Hopefully a place where one could get a room in a pension with a private onsen or something?

Also, some place -not- in Kanto or Kansai?

Lots of requirements, gimmie your best!

The island Miyajima, near Hiroshima is romantic. Lot's of nature, temples, and some nice hotels... however it is expensive!

I think that Kobe is also pretty romantic, especially if you have your hotel near the Akashi kaiyko bridge, in the evening you can see the bridge lightened up in 8 different colors witch you can view while you are having a nice romantic walk on the Boulevard (don't forget your small fireworks!)

Another nice place also in Kobe is Mt. Rokko! have a nice walk in the afternoon in the mountains, or spend some time at the small attractions on the top, have some great dinner at the Rokko garden terrace ( View over Kobe and Osaka... an amazing view!) and then go to the lovely hotel where you can take a hot bath with the same view from the Garden terrace!

This are some of my tips for the moment, hope you like it!

I often thought that Jigokudani in Nagano was a rustic, romantic spot. I have stayed at the ryokan a few times and liked the way you have to walk for a few kms in the forest to get to it.





There are a lot of tourists in the day for the monkey park but come dusk just you (and any other guests) and the monkeys. The outside onsen is beautiful at night and there is a 'family' indoor one with a lockable door!

Lots of snow (in winter of course), trees, nature and...oh yes....did I mention the monkeys?

Thanks for all the tips!
I'm going to look into this.

I would only like to spend maybe 2-3 days, and want to fly in from Kansai Airport, as I have miles with NWA/JAL I need to use up.

Is Jigokudani in Nagano accessible by plane? I guess I would fly into Nagano's airport... and then get there by train or bus or whatever? Is Jigokudani difficult to access from the city? THANKS this place looks great.

I am looking for places outside of the Kansai/Kanto area, but thanks for the info on those other places anyway.

OK Harvey san - here's some more info. The place is called Korakukan ryokan.



I can't help with planes but if you did want to go, it's easy to get to by public transport from Nagano. You take the Nagano Dentetsu line to Yudanaka station. The express train takes 42 mins. From Yudanaka station take a bus to Kambayashi Onsen Guchi. From there, it is about a 2 km walk through the forest to Jigokudani.

Access to Jigokudani.
From Osaka to Matsumoto Airport of Nagano, it is one flight of 1 day.
It is 20,700 yen from Itami Airport to Matsumoto Airport of Nagano

To Jigokudani,
You move by the Sinkansen from Osaka to Nagoya.
I move by a limited express train (窶堋ｵ窶堙遺?堙 5) from Nagoya to Nagano.
(private railroad Nagano Electric Railway)
You move from Nagano to Ydanaka.
To here, it is about 6 hours,11,830 yen.
You move to kamibayashi ONSEN by bus
A bus is nine flights of 1st.

Jigokudani walks from kamibayashi ONSEN, and it is about 30 minutes.
About 1.8km.
It is very hard to go to jigokudani.

I have frequent flier miles with NW/JAL, any interesting places I could fly to? I'm thinking of flying to Hokkaido maybe and then moving to a little bit INAKA area?

Or maybe I could fly to Nagano or Okinawa?

The two-hour hike from Tsumago to Magome (or the other way around) might be nice to feel traditional Japan.
