Hey, I have a one year work visa. I want to go to Thailand for a trip, do I need to get a re-entry visa so when I come back I can still use my one year visa?

Any ideas how long that might take? Cost?

I have looked online, but i only tells me how to get the one year visa which I already have, so not real useful.

Thanks,

Yes, you need a reentry permit. Even people on permanent residency visas need reentry permits to reenter the country.

You may have had better luck searching for it on the web if you had used the term "reentry permit" instead of "reentry visa":

Mike Cash is right. The cost depends on whether it is single re-entry or multiple re-entry. I think it is respectively 4000 and 8000 yen...

I know that in my prefecture at least, single and multiple re-entry permits are obtained from the immigration office, and paid for using a really expensive stamp from the post office.

In our case, said office is in the same building as our customs office, and is in a city that's not the main city of the prefecture.

in my city, you buy the stamp from a small post office a few blocks away that seems to exist only to sell this one stamp.

In Takasaki, you buy the revenue stamps at a little shop across the street.

Actually, you can get the revenue stamp from any place that handles them and bring it along with you if you like.
