BERKELEY, Calif. -- FOR half a century, a rare and extensive
collection of historical Japanese maps spanning hundreds of years have been stored in the East Asian Library at the University of California, revealing their secrets only to those few who had received permission to handle them

Now, through state-of-the-art imaging technology,
anyone can view these fragile maps

The link to the maps doesn't appear to be working...

You need to copy and paste it instead of clicking on it. There's a period on the end that's making it not work. Copy it and paste it without the period on the end...

Doh! Thnx for the tip, much appreciated.

Darn! You beat me to posting it.

What's on the site is a small portion of the maps that Berkeley owns.

I could find my neighbourhood on the Edo map. The name have all changed apart from the bridge, main road and temples. Really good site. Thanks for the link !

Bump !

For any of our new members who are interested in Japanese history, these maps are nice. The link still works for me.
