odd visa question

I'm married to an indonesian woman in japan. I met her while i was there with the navy dated for 3 yrs got married had a daughter. since then i got out of the navy and came back to america and have been working on her visa for a while, and its been taking a very long time. She has a daughter from a prior marriage to a japanese guy(turned out to be a wife beater), and she is able to live and work in japan due to her daughter. I am seriously considering moving back to japan to help her out more with the visa issues, and to work on our relationship in an enviroment that she feels comfortable in, before throwing her into the culture shock of america. I am wondering if i will be allowed to work and live in japan based off of my step-daughter/wife? my daughter has a visa there right now based off of my wife and step daughter, but she's 2. I have tried reasearching this and have not found anyhting that would give me any clarrification. Could you help? or possibly just point me in the right direction.

If your wife has permanent residency status I believe she should be able to sponsor you for a spouse visa. You need to consult the Japanese Embassy.

Regarding visa processing difficulties in the US, contact your Congressman for help in cutting through the red tape. (I had to do that myself once, a long time ago. He contacted the American ambassador in Japan, who contacted the visa section of the Embassy here, and they took a sudden interest in being prompt).
