Hitsugi 7 word interview
H:HITSUGI
-Where did your name come from?
H:The "hi" comes from the artist that I admire, hide-san. The "gi" comes from "guitar". And then I put those together with the "tsu".
-Woow!
H:When I put together the artist that I admire and the thing i have to do, I came up with a name that sounds like coffin. (laughs) ((Hitsugi means coffin if a different kanji is used.)) But I felt that "Hitsugi"((his name)) was more Japanese-like than "hitsugi"((coffin)). So my name has nothing to do with a coffin. (laughs)
H:Happy
-When do you feel really happy?
H:When I sleep once more after I wake up. That makes me so happy.
-Yeah, you're right.
H:Like when I wake up too early, and there's still a lot of time left I'm always like "Okay, I'm gonna sleep again-" and I sleep. (laughs)
-When you do that, do you see dreams when you know you have to wake up but you're still kind of dozing off? Dreams of things like getting ready to leave.
H:Yeah. And also when I sleep while keeping the TV on, the story from the TV goes straight into my dream, and the story continues inside of me. (laughs) When I wake up, the endings different. Oh, and also when I'm watching a movie. I feel really happy when I'm able to totally sink into that world. Like, I'm happiest when I'm away from reality...
-In a way, sleeping twice is an escape from reality.
H:Yeah.(laughs) The best Dvd that I saw lately was "Deep Blue". I was really stricken by the power of nature. I was happy for myself for thinking that it was cool.(laughs) Like, "Oh, I can become so moved by something like this".
-Like life's not so bad.
H:Yeah. It makes me feel like I still have a pure heart. Even though to others, things like sleeping twice and watching movies may be normal things, they're important to me.
I:Interest
-What are you interested in right now?
H:The snake we used for this photoshoot. It was so cute~
-You like reptiles?
H:Extremely. I wish I could own one. But it must be so hard to raise it.
-You like animals, right?
H: Yeah. I like dogs and cats too, but I want to own something besides them. Like a prarie dog or a monkey. Maybe if it's small enough I can take it with me on the tours.
-Do you have anything at home?
H:Right now I have 2 cats. One of them is at a friend's house now. It's so cute. Also, my parents asked me if I wanted a turtle the other day on the phone, and at first I didn't get when they were saying, but I guess now there are more turtles in my house now.
-So they called you to tell you about it, right?
H:When my parents were driving there was a rock on the road, but then it moved and they found out that it was a turtle.
-They took it home?(laughs)
H:It's supposedly really big. And its name is Yocchan.(laughs)
-It's a nice calm name. This is how more animals are brought into your house.
H:Oh no, it's gonna become an animal kingdom...
T:Treasure
-What is your treasure, or something important to you?
H:Something important to me... Well this is just like a feeling-type of thing, but lately I'm into volunteering. It's not something that'll come to me as an object, but it feels like my insides are being cleaned. The other day on Zozzy(Yomi)'s birthday, I bought him a part of the moon.
-So romantic~((Kana: XDD!!!!!!!!!! homf.))
H:And Zozzy told me, "Out of all of the things I got recently, this made me the happiest. Presents like those aren't things that you can take in your hands and look at directly. But I think that my likings for things like that have gotten stronger, like having people become happy about things like that. I think that's a good thing so I think it's a treasure.
-It makes you so happy just to see the other happy.
H:Yes. Rather than me becoming happy because something was done for me, I'd much rather see other people happy and be happy about that.Like on TV, sometimes there's those ads where they say that 100 yen can save many people's lives. When I see those, I always call.
-It's wonderful that you can do those things without wanting anything for yourself.
T:Tric((not typo.. Well, not my typo))
-But don't you have any likings for tricks and doing bad things?
H:I love scaring people. Like going "Boo!" (laughs) When I was in elementary school, I always waited for my parents to come home and I hid. And then when they came home and looked for me, I'd get up behind them and go "booo!!!" with a big voice. Then they'd be all surprised...
-Haha, I can imagine that. Do you still do it?
H:Sometimes.
-You still do it!
S:Stage
-What is the stage to you?
H:To me, it's a place where I can have people see me, rather than a place where people just see me. So, it's a place where I can't be my normal self.
-Which means you try hard.
H:Yep.But no matter what I'm always nervous during a live. I'm really not good with pressure.
-So you're saying that having people watch you also creates pressure.
H:I feel like I have to do it, to me.*laughs* I don't have the belief that I want the people watching us to feel completely satisfied. I just want to show that I'm doing things(probably he's referring to music) like this to people.
-Because it's like a place to prove the existence of Hitsugi the guitarist.
H: Just like magazines, the stage is where I can fully show the character named Hitsugi. Inside me, Hitsugi has to have so much make-up on that you can't tell what his real face looks like. In my fanletters, I usually am told that "less make-up is better", but in my mind, that's not Hitsugi then.

-If you weren't a musician, what would you have been?
H:I probably wouldn't have taken on my parents' jobs. I think I would have been working with good friends.
-Is it important that it's with your friends?
H: Because I'm a person that can't live alone. Even shopping I don't like going shopping alone, and I would never go out to eat alone either.(I think Ni~ya's living with him, according to the Sendai Kamotsu profiles.)
-You're like a girl.
H:The only time I'm alone is when I'm traveling.
-So by working with friends, you mean that you don't mind what you do as long as it's with your friends?
h: Yeah. Which means that I could have gone the wrong way.. *laughs* Also, I like animals so It would have been nice to work with them. Like a pet shop, or a trimmer.
U:Usual & unusual
H: Generally, I'm normal, right?
-Well compared to your members, you seem to be the most normal boy.
H:Right? Right? Right? I'm a normal boy, right?
-You just called yourself a boy *laughs* But I think it's true. Like if you were either a good kid, a bad kid or a normal kid, you'd be a good kid.
H:Hey, that's a good thing!
-You don't have any parts of you that you think are weird?
H:Well... I don't mean to be conceited, but when I'm riding the train it feels like everyone's looking at me.(O_O)
-Well, I think they are. I think normal people couldn't help looking when there's a boy with this many piercings on *laughs*
H: Oh, they're looking? Well then.. *laughs*
G:Guilty
-Is there anything that you've done that you think was a bad thing?
H:Lately I've been really sick often and there was one photoshoot that I couldn't go to. I think that it's really inconsiderate to my members and the people that go to work for the photoshoot, and I am sorry for all of those people that buy the magazine looking forward to see pictures of me and then don't see them. I think it's really irresponsible of me not to be able to take care of myself, especially because of the type of stuff I do for work, and I really believe that I have to become more responsible.
I:Imagine
-Imagine your future self.
H:I think.. That I'll probably be more shibui((Okay, this word was really hard to translate. The word Shibui translates on a japanese-english dictionary to astringent, rough, quiet, tasteful, and sober. To give a clearer image of "shibui", examples are: J, Current Toshiya, Um.. yeah. >>; ). I want to be a person that doesn't do special things for stage, and want to look good even wearing my normal clothes.
-Yeah, people say that you start to take all of the decorations off and you become closer to your natural self.
H:Somewhere inside of me, I want to be a person that has only a little makeup on and a person that wouldn't have to be holding a guitar, to have people say that he "looks good just standing there". But there's another part of me that wants to stay like this and be a funky old guy in my 30's.
-Maybe you could be both? I think a grownup that can be both of those things would be really cool.
H:You're right. Hitsugi's still very incomplete, and only the vivid side of him is shown to the public, but I can polish myself so that my natural self can be as cool, so that some day I could both show both sides.
