Help Never Regret

Hi!
I'm some Swedish person seeking a bit of help.
I'm getting a tattoo soon. I'm gonna use the phrase "Never Regret".

I wonder if someone could show me how "Never Regret" looks scripted in japanese (Kanji?).

And.... I guess it's more than one "sign"(?).. So.. Is it ok to have the "signs" vertically written? (Since I'm planning to have it from my belly and downwards).

As you might have noticed I'm pretty new to this japanese stuff ^_^

Do I sound familar or the "never regret"?

Well, since I don't know how "never regret" looks in japanese.. I don't know But I've seen some Japanese "lettering".. And it looked fancey

I'm searching my way and still don't know the path.. But when I find the right one, I'll know it... It might be japanese... I'll find out sooner or later

Never Regret would be 後悔しない in Japanese.
Will you really tattoo 「後悔しない」 on you ?
 
Wouldn't 残念に思っていない work as well ? For a tattoo ? Or at least It may be more akin to the spirit of "no regrets" as we would use it in English, as opposed to no repentance or no apologizing.
 
If you write "後悔しない" (koukai shinai) on yourself it will look quite odd to Japanese people.

Chinese is much cooler for this sort of thing if you ask me.

The only thing that I can say is "無悔 is not a Japanese word".

At WakaP, yes it was just for your possible interest.

There is also a version at No Regrets that I got to by following Paul's links. So I got it right in Chinese, yay! But their pronounciation there is weird. I guess "woo" is ok but the second character sounds more like "hway" in Mandarin.

I think it looks better in Chinese due to there being no hiragana. I guess you could have "kui nashi" but it sounds like the dying words of a yakuza or something to me.

The kanji 悔 is obviously (based on / very similar to / variant of) the second kanji in that link but I think it had a different codepoint in Unicode when I checked.

(Coincidently I've just had an annoying argument in sci.lang.japan about whether 曰 is a different kanji to 日 )
 
You would never get that argument in a Chinese forum because 曰 is the "said" in "Confucius said" so you get it rammed home that it is different from "sun".

Regarding the "regret" character, not sure but I think it is just a font difference - pasted from Chinese IME which displays it with the two points instead of the vertical line but then the standard font makes it into a line.

Well this
Unihan data for U+6094
is the unicode entry for the character I copied from your post.

As you say the 'unicode standard' .gif is clearly two point version (looks like the 'standard' variants are closer to Chinese than Japanese).

I'm not sure where I got my idea from ... must have been thinking of a different character or something.

今まで話していた事と違う角に変えてごめんなさい。

でも、Ｔａｔｔｏｏ としては、「残念に思っていない」は否定的な意味になるのでしょうか？

英語の"No regrets" "Never regret"を意味するのに「残念に思っていない, 後悔しない 」などが使われる場合が あるそうです。


中国語に全然興味がないから。。。

Loosely translating : I'm not sure I'm that happy to have contributed towards somebody getting a Chinese tattoo.

Incidently the difference between that and the typical 'bablefish' result should be enough to put off anybody reading this from getting a tattoo based on machine translations.
 

The reason I came to this forum is mainly because I don't trust bablefish

日本人から見ると「後悔しない」というtattooも変ですが、「残念に思っていない」というtattooはもっと変です。日本人なら、どちらのtattooもまずしないでしょう（カッコ悪いから）。

'I don't feel any regrets'というtattooは、どんな感じがしますか？
カッコイイですか、それとも変ですか？

「命」というtattooを見ることがあります。命は英語でlifeですが、
'Life'というtatooはEnglish speakersにとってどうですか？
カッコイイですか、それとも変ですか？
 
残念に思っていない to me sounds like "I'm not sorry that it happened". I think if a Japanese person saw that as a tattoo it would give much the same impression as if we saw "I'm not sorry that it happened" tattooed on a Japanese person. That is, it isn't an effective slogan because it's referring to a specific situation. It's not talking about a general state of having no regrets about anything at all.

後悔しない to me sounds like "I am not going to have any regrets about it". I don't think you would use "shinai" to talk about the present situation or general principles, in this case. You would say something like "I am not the sort of person to have regrets" or "you should never have regrets" rather than using "shinai" by itself. Saying "I'm not going to have any regrets about it" sounds weird because you are talking about yourself in the future (shinai) looking back (koukai no kou) at something which then will be in the past, but which in fact hasn't happened yet. For me that ruins any rhetorical force by being so complicated on a conceptual level.

Heh, I know what you mean. On an automotive forum I sometimes visit, some kid there wanted to get a kanji tattoo that meant "fastest" or something like that. I told him he shouldn't get one at all, but someone else suggested 快速 and 高速 ! My gf and I had a good laugh at that one...

I also once saw a kid walking around with a big sticker that said あけましておめでとう on the back of his jacket!
