Need help in making an international call on a line phone

I need to call this number. It's the Dept. of the Treasury in the USA.

Telephone number is : +1-267-941-1000
Our land phone does not have the + on it. Is it necessary ? Also is the States 010-1-then then number.

Need to make the call tonight. Its in Pennsylvania.

Hope it works for me.
The Treasury Dept. found out I didn't cash the check ( couldn't) so they want to send me another one. I got a friend in Okinawa that can cash the checks now though.

It's the first check for 600 bucks. I sure can use that money now.
 
I couldn't call last night. Not sure what the problem is. Also I re-checked the letter, its for 1200 bucks. I thought it was for 600 bucks. My cell phone with Ymobile won't allow me to make the call either. I'll go to Ymobile today and find out what the problem is.
 
I'm confused of what your saying (or I'm just slow and can't help you much) but you don't have to put the +1 when calling a number. For instance my number goes like this 318-804-1247 (not exactly it for privacy reasons) and I dial that and it works just fine. So just do 267-941-1000. Or you can try different treasury numbers because there is a lot of Dept of treasury numbers I see from looking it up.
Now it does show -1 when I look it up but I personally never dial that.
If you can't use that number try this one (202) 622-2960. It's just in a different area of the US.
 
But I'm calling from Japan to the US. We have to use the call code for the US. Which I've been told is 010- or even 001- I'm just as confused as you are. LOL
 
The 2 years I lived in Japan at times seemed I was on the planet Mars. The law , rules and customs of Maine I was used to did not seem to exist in the military or Japan. I had to learn how to stay out of trouble from military law & Japanese law. I was always asking my Japanese friends to explain things to me. I get the feeling life spent in any foreign country is an eye opening experience.

Well in most of the numbers they had a 1 at the start so it might be 001? That must be hard. If you find out what it is tell me too
 
1 is the country code for the US and Canada. When calling the US from overseas, you need the 1.
And, in Japan, you used to use 001 to first get an outside line (if I remember correctly...this is going back a few decades).
Then, the Japanese phone industry was deregulated, and Japan all of a sudden had three phone companies instead of the one national monopoly. Each phone company had their own prefix to get an international line; 010, 001, and another one...can't remember it now.

Bloody hell, I feel old.

It was like this in the US, too. AT&T was the only phone company. They had a national monopoly before sometime in the late 70's, I think. It was crap, too. Phoning overseas was super expensive - so expensive that you would avoid it at all costs. A short phone call to Japan could end up costing $100+ dollars.
 
Yes, I remember the days, but our phone bill like$ 3.50 a month too.
Anyway, using Ymobile to call overseas is a problem also, since its parent company controls everything. Still haven't gotten to the Dept. of the Treasury yet. Don't know what is wrong either.
 
You could try to place the call with Skype or Google Voice, if they accept VOIP calls (voice over IP)
