I find modern Japanese pop music rather drab, derivative and unoriginal often with cloyingly saccharine lyrics
But as an adult, I'm not it's target demographic!
Nankai TRIO however, are an
astonishing trio of musicians, demonstrating virtuosity in their playing. They seamlessly blend this virtuosity with an infectious groove and 'out-of-the-box' choice of guitar lines, admittedly characteristic of the Fusion genre, but even so, here, it's is done
so well. The drummer and main composer, Kawaguchi Senri, is incongruously beguiling, an air somewhat augmented by her modest appearance. In fact, the whole band radiates a refreshingly gentle humility. I
love Nankai TRIO!
