I am a survivor of abuse (several forms including SA). I try to get tattoos that having a meaning to me, even if somone else doesn't understand it. I would like to get a kanji tattoo that represents my survival of these things and my forgiveness for those who did them. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Your attitude is good, but my Japanese isn't good enough for me to suggest something, but instead of something directly related to your trauma, how about something that shows or speaks to your development/evolution from that?

So besides survival or forgiveness (both good), maybe also something like perception/realizaiton, sensitivity, awareness, or recovery?

生存者 means "survivor." Just like the English word it is a general term. i.e. could be earthquake survivor or whatever.

But it's tough to come up with something based on your description. If you have a succinct phrase in English that gets across the meaning you want perhaps we can start with that.

Just something that occurred to me reading this, trying to do it in as few characters as possible...

許は自分の力
Foregiveness is one's own (my own) strength/power
