News Kagawa Prefecture develops udon broth bath additive

Kagawa Prefecture, renowned for its Sanuki udon noodles, introduced a bath additive that not only replicates the aroma and appearance of the famous udon broth but also provides a unique sensory experience: named "Sanuki Udon no Kaori Yu," this product aims to immerse bathers in the essence of udon. Crafted with a blend of ingredients mimicking the scent and colour of the broth made with dried bonito flakes and kelp, the additive allows bathers to feel as if they are immersed in the very essence of their favourite noodle dish.

The limited-edition bath additive was initially launched on the 6th of December at "Genpei no Sato Mure," a government-designated roadside rest area in Takamatsu, the capital of Kagawa Prefecture. This launch celebrates not only the love for udon but also the rich culinary tradition of Kagawa Prefecture, which includes popular variations such as "kake udon" (五目うどん, noodles served in hot broth), "bukkake udon" (ぶっかけうどん, noodles topped with a smaller volume of thicker broth), and "zaru udon" (ざるうどん, noodles served on a bamboo tray).

The different udon varieties feature different flavour strengths and fragrances in their broths. The bath additive is available in "kake udon" style and "bukkake udon" style. The product was developed by workers at the roadside rest area facility, who wished to have Sanuki udon enjoyed unconventionally. Roadside rest area officials said they paid closer attention to the fragrances than the bath salts' effects in their trial-and-error endeavour. They prepared 800 pouches of the additive for individual and set sales. They said that, depending on sales, they might consider releasing more product variants, such as a "zaru udon" style and a "kama-Tama udon" (straight from the pot and served with raw egg) style. "Our product makes the bath water smell so tasty that you may get the urge to drink it, but you shouldn't," an official with the roadside rest area facility said. "We will sell our product with caution."

The Kaori Yu bath additive, including tax, is priced at 260 yen ($1.74) for an individual pouch. The chain of numerals 2-6 can be read as "furo," which means "bath." A two-pouch set is available for 426 yen, including tax. The numeral chain 4-2-6 stands for "yoi furo," or a "good bath." A six-pouch set costs 1,126 yen, including tax, where 1-1-2-6 is intended to be read as "ii furo," which again means a "good bath."

I can understand why they did it...but I can't understand anyone using this, except for a lark. Only in Japan. lol

My favorite smell would be spaghetti & meatballs. I picture being in Walmart and having people follow me to smell me better , LOL.
