This is still a work in progress. I drafted it some time after the 2011 earthquake, but never finished it. I'm planning on adding more biographical data and a few words on the issue of female succession to the Chrysanthemum Throne shortly.

and of course not part of the imperial line as far as we know but Himiko is another female Japanese leader that might have existed people may be interested in.

Though Himiko was probably more of a spiritual leader, a shaman queen, than an empress.
