Is Miyavi replacing god of music Gackt?

I had to ask this question because now on the internet is all I see. Miyavi everywhere!! Is not that it bothers me, cos he's hot! But since I'm deeply inlove with Gackt...
Anyway, is it true what they say? That he'll be his heir??

I'm tempted to say NO. I love Miyavi, don't get me wrong, but Gackt is still going strong. His Diabolos Tour was UNBELIEVABLY successful and he is showing no signs of EVER slowing down. I don't think he will ever have an heir because he will never give up that title so there is no need for one. BUT BEFORE NORMPHOBIC JUMPS ON MY @$$ let me say that I love Miyavi, I am not bashing Miyavi, I am just saying that Gackt is the God of J-Rock and will forever be the God

wow! That horrible horrible pop comment was something serious. I love Gackt a lot and I wanna make clear I'm not defending him because of that, but I don't think he can be classified as pure pop. Not after Rebirth...
and well, his last album was... again like mars, but .. ah.. I don't know. He's out of pop and out of rock. Gackt, what the heck are you???
Besides, at any moment I compared them, i am just commenting something about something I heard.

and Miyavi isn't replacing him, Gackt is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too popular in Japan for that to ever happen

The Miyavi American fan increase (or should I say internet fan increase) is probably based on the fact that he is damn attractive, and young, which is sure to pull in a lot of fans seeing as overseas fans often see pictures first before hearing the music just by the nature of the internet.

... I'd say 'no' ... Gackt is still going strong, and Miyavi-sama and Gackt have different types of fanbase (although I'm not saying those who like Gackt can't like Miyavi or other way around) In Japan, Miyavi attracts girls who are more into rock, (used to be vk, but he changed), whereas Gackt has managed to attract an a lot more varied crowd of fans - from the 50 year old mothers, to the little, tv-game-playing guys, to the 'normal, common' fangirls.
Or that's how I see it. Gackt is bigger.
Although, I agree with Lady Blue: Recently, Miyavi-sama has become really popular everywhere on the internet - he's all they're talking about in all the forums. It's great! *dances*

I agree. We all have our different opinions. I firmly believe that Gackt's music doesn't have the pop feel to it. Perhaps in some songs. But let me say this. I've noticed that anyone that extremely successful in the music business, in any country, gets a lot of negative feedback.
But, everyone is entitled to their opinion. And that's just mine.

I'm just laughing at the idea of Gackt being a 'god of music'... I don't think so.

Anyway, Miyavi and Gackt are completely different. One cannot 'replace' the other. In terms of popularity, I don't think Miyavi will ever be as big as Gackt is.

Gaku is, and forever will be, damn huge. i agree with the comment about how meever tends to attract many fans because of his gorgeous face, before they even hear him sing *is guilty* but gackt has the Voice! ooooh those things he does with his voice...*melts*

Gackt (while I am not the biggest fan) is incredibly huge in Japan. His popularity is so crazy. And Gackt is extremly talented. Miyavi is gaining popularity and you can't deny his talent. And while I would love to see Miyavi as the King of Japan, I seriously doubt he would as much popularity as Gackt. Also I really can't see Miyavi whoring himself out to every single major brand in Japan, and being in a cm like every 6 seconds on tv for 50 million companys.

both of them are wrong, I think. Miyavi doesn't sound ANYTHING like Gackt whatsoever. They are two completely different people. Different styles, influences etc. Also put it this way, Gackt plays alot better pop that we get here, or the states. I don't really listen to his music anyway, just one of his acoustic albums.

edit: They are both genious's in their own right.

Just remember how it all started. Gackt didn't know how to sing, had a lot of money and talent on piano and drums but had no experience on stage, he got into Malice Mizer almost by luck, and then quit the band that made him great because he just couldn't manage himself with Mana.. (that's what he gives to understand into his biography, cos there are no truly clear statements about it even tho he wrote an entire chapter about it).
Now, let's look at Miyavi. He's got another talent there as a guitarrist, has not much voice but has the perfect look. He's young and has much to learn yet, and also much to give. What if on the way, he reaches the point I think he's trying to reach? By the time he's Gackt's age (whatever that age is...), Gackt will be a bit old.. T_T.. and he might just make people forget a little.

Since when is Gackt god of music? I mean his voice is amazing and his skills too, he is funny and all those things but i kind of don't see him as a god of music. Same goes for Miyavi. And as some mentioned they are really different. Their music is not alike, they have different styles, Miyavi is rock and Gackt is (don't kill me) more pop than rock. I don't see any fighting for the best between them, maybe at this moment people just like to talk about Miyavi more then about Gackt, but that can end any time.

Miyavi and Gackt are differnt generations right now. Miyavi is growing in popularity yes, but his peak will probably be when Gackt has to step out of the lime light because of age.
Gackt will be a legend while Miyavi is still a rising star. No one will replace anyone.

Since miyavis fame is really and effectively confined to japan, hes more a prince or duke of music rather then god.
