Is It Possible ??

I feel it's important to the lifeblood of the Forum to have new & interesting threads created by members, more so (maybe?) then posting a reply to a thread. I wonder if in the user info next to the number of posts a member has made, it can show number of threads created by the member. Possibly a split number like P488/T13. Or maybe:

Posts 488
Threads 13

Some people are interested in post counts, maybe by showing credit for threads created, it might increase activity in that area. I guess the question would be, would the quality of threads be affected?

I think this is a good idea however it comes with huge problems.

Are these new threads going to be relevant to anything, the moderators will need to keep a close eye on all these new threads and will likely have to be closing and deleating quite a few each day.

Some of the more important, useful threads might end up getting hidden amoung the trash.

Maybe work it so users can only create threads if there reputation is good, then though you have a problem of new users not able to and those that disable it.
Unless you created a thread rep in which case it just gets damn right complicated.

Though i would give the idea a thumbs up and see how it works out.

I don't really agree with the idea of being able to create threads if your rep is good. How much good rep would you need? What about new members who wish to introduce themselves? If they have no rep then they cannot start a thread introducing themselves. The J-pop seection would be very bare if you had to have a certain amount of rep before you could start a thread, as most of the people who use this section do not have much rep. You could then end up with rep being handed out by groups so they could start threads and not for good posts. With various crictism that the rep system has had this could just cause more trouble than it is worth.
Dispite my various rambling points, I do commend the original idea

It is my opinion that there are enough (overlapping) threads already....anyway, I used to be in a place of worrying about things like this too until my offline life suddenly improved. Now they fortunately don't seem nearly as critical.

I will say right from the start; I just don't feel that I have the tenure to say anything here other than I feel--only feel--that I wouldn't think I'd be able to feel the satisfaction of the communicating act if there ended up being so many threads that I would become unable to keep regular posting on any one of them timely and coherent.

I am not against the idea, however, just concerned, maybe unsure of it.

I think there are too many interesting threads here already i.e. when I check in I have to see what they're about, and end up posting on them, taking more time than I should and spreading myself too thin. Therefore, would people please stop starting interesting threads? I would be most grateful.

I think some sections are thinner on new threads than others. For instance, in the jpop section there are often new threads starting, I sometimes find it confusing (can't remember what I've posted in which thread!) and they sometimes overlap. However, it's often that people start a thread on a new band they discover, so there is bound to be a lot of threads because, well, there are lots of bands!

Other sections don't have necessarily so many threads. And sometimes, I look, and topics look interesting, but if the last post is kind of old, I feel hesitant about bumping up the thread once again because I feel 'people lost interest in that' and maybe I'm only interested cos I wasn't around for the origin. So I think it's nice to have someone like Uncle Frank around who occasionally bumps old threads to the top to remind people they are there and give new people a chance to comment! Keep up the good work!

As for starting new threads, yes, I feel hesitant about starting them, even though I am not exactly 'new' any more *views scarily high post count* ( ) !!! but I feel 'new' in terms of serious discussions. I think I only started 2 new threads since being here and both were in jpop section, one to share a site with some piano music I found, and one to ask a question about a band I heard of. In serious discussions I am afraid of betraying my ignorance of things especially like politics :sorry: , it can be interesting for me but I am not very knowledgeable.

I think maybe it could be good to revisit some old threads? I think too many new threads would mean duplication, because already there is some.

i would say my ratio of posts to threads is pretty much, 8 posts to 3 threads, or maybe more you could say.

People dont post threads if they think it won't get replies, but being able to reply quickly is essential to posts,give the newbies a go, let them become popular or even famous like FRANK, keep up the good work.
