iPhone; Success or Not

The functionality certainly seems very whizzy and nice when testing in the shop, but I have to say they are not good value for money. I use a Blackberry (not the Storm!) and it does everything I want it to do, email, internet etc, just doesn't look so flashy. The one thing better about the iPhone is the intuitive way you can use the zoom when on the internet but it really isn't worth the extra money you have to pay.
 
I love my iPhone 3G!

I use it with Rogers Communications up here in Canada but it worked seamlessly in Japan. Of course I only used it for emergencies since I didn't have a roaming package.

BTW, where do I get that kanji jiten????!!!!
 
Check the Apple store, look for "jitensho" or "kanji".
 
I was considering getting one of these, but the softbank price is something like 79,000 yen???
 
I think I love to buy iPhone because there are a lot of application that apple shop has provided for you ... maybe upper than 10k

I like usual mobile pbone, if I want to use other functions, I will use PC or other tools. I think phone is a communication tool, more functions are redundant
 
Just an update and an observation. I still love my iphone, and they even implemented A2DP (bluetooth stereo) support through a software update. It turns out the sound quality isn't all it was cracked up to be and I'm back to being leashed to my phone. I've brought it with me on this trip, and it's been very useful so far even though I haven't been using it as a phone yet. The observation is that a majority of my friends now have iphones, many of them Japanese. I guess Edy and TV aren't deal breakers anymore? And the iphone is pretty cheap here so that probably helps too.
 

As you point out, iPhone has been penetrating Japanese market much more than before.
Amazing ! .... But I still use Osaifu-Keitai as I need to use mobile phone for train/metro.

The new Sharp Android phone has all the E-money functions (Osaifu keitai) built in. Check out your local Au by KDDI shop for more details.

Still, the iPhone is the leading smartphone here with a month waiting list for a new one.

However, I'm sticking with my xperia. I'm addicted to it--can't go anywhere without it.
 
I really want to have an iphone, but I would use the Internet too much on it with such a large screen, so it would be too expensive for me.


So an Iphone4 would cost me at least:
standard price plan: 2900¥
white plan: 980 ¥
s! basic pack: 315¥
unlimited Mail/internet use: 5985¥
=
10,180 a month....

On top of this will probably come some additional cost.

My colleagues who are using iPhone are satisfied with the product itself, but most of them complain that they've got nasty surprise when they realize how big volume of packet communication connection they used without noticing and received a bill showing a huge amount of the fee. One of the colleagues told me it is not rare that the it could reach something around JPY50,000 to JPY100,000!!!
(So signing up to a special contract of flat rate packet.)

As an Android smart phone user, I'm rooting for the alliance in its battle with the new evil empire -- Apple!
 
iPhone = iPod touch with a sim card slot.

So if you're not going to use the sim services then stick to an iPod touch.

Or even better, try buying an HTC phone that's using Android believe me you won't regret it (HTC Legend user here and loving every piece of it).
 
I'm using the HTC EVO with Android and simply love it! It's the first thing I turn on in the morning and the last thing I turn off at night unless I am using it as my alarm clock or listening to Japanese Radio with the "Tune In" app (Hundreds of stations available from all over the world). Also, the "Simeji" app is great for translating English into Japanese or vice-versa.
 
The iPhone is definitely successful. Now that it is Verizon, there is really no reason to not have one (i.e. can't use spotty signal as an excuse).
 
I have heard that the iPhone is that good it can actually blow up in your hand if your hand is wet, and that the metal band around it that acts as the antenna, is prone to short circuiting from time to time if the phone is held incorrectly. Can anyone else confirm what Ive mentioned, just want to know if its true.
