7月23日に東京で「India × Japan DeepTech & AI Venture Challenge 2026」というベンチャーチャレンジが開催されます。日英バイリンガルで運営される1日完結型のイベントで、日本の起業家15名が選抜されてピッチを行います。

面白いのは、賞品が賞金ではないという点です。グランドプライズの受賞者には、インドのエンジニアチーム（4〜6名）が12週間にわたってプロダクトを開発します。コードの所有権は100%受賞者に帰属。エクイティの取得はありません。選抜された15名全員が50%割引での開発サービスと投資家への直接ピッチ機会を得られます。

対象分野はヘルスケアAI、バイオテクノロジー、ロボティクス、医療技術、エンタープライズAI、フィンテック、クリーンテックです。

運営チームはすでに日本で4つのプロダクトを納品しています。アルフレッサHD提携先向けヘルスケアAIプラットフォーム、Digital Platformerのブロックチェーン高速化、東京のAI安全プラットフォーム、そしてメイヨークリニックで受賞した医療検出ツールです。

Wanted to share something that might be relevant for anyone here involved in Japan's tech or startup scene.

There's a venture challenge happening in Tokyo on July 23 called the India × Japan DeepTech & AI Venture Challenge 2026. It's a bilingual (English + Japanese) one-day event where 15 Japanese founders (or Japan-based founders) get selected to pitch.

The interesting part: the prize isn't cash. The winner gets a dedicated engineering team from India (4-6 developers) building their product for 12 weeks. Full code ownership, no equity taken. All 15 selected founders get development at 50% off and direct investor access.

It's focused on sectors like healthcare AI, biotech, robotics, medical tech, enterprise AI, fintech, and climate tech.

For context, the team running it has already built four products in Japan: a healthcare AI platform partnered with Alfresa Holdings, blockchain infrastructure for Digital Platformer, an AI safety platform in Tokyo, and a medical detection tool that won at Mayo Clinic.

Curious if anyone here is working in any of these sectors in Japan. Would be interesting to hear what the tech startup scene looks like from the ground for people living here.

I dont get the appeal with AI? Its obviously done so companies dont need to deal with humans. Interms of less time to deal with their problems. But AI is also super expensive? So whats even the point?

For certain tasks, coding for example, it raises productivity significantly. The prices they are charging are not unreasonable.

Well that i can see some benefit with. But i still dont get the appeal behind mass funding for it. Since it wastes money. And people are overall not into AI products. So i dont see how anybody wins. Outside maybe that 10% of tech assisted usage with AI

I don't think we can doubt that AI as industry sector will be massively profitable and successful in the long run. Sure many will fail but that doesn't negate the overall trend. Consider cars. There were many, many car companies in the early days. Many failed, went bankrupt or were absorbed by competitors. But cars were and still are a huge industry. The providers left at the end of the data center build out and consolidation will certainly win.

As for people "not overall into AI products," that might be true for the typical end user but I think even those people are becoming enmeshed in AI without knowing it. Marketing will become even more insidious and targeted. Photographers using photoshop will use the new tools not really knowing or caring that they use AI. Every time we type something into our computers there are suggestions for spelling and completing our sentences for us. That will continue to get smarter and smarter using AI technology.

I don't know if you can access this link but an author tried to go 48 hours without any usage of AI. He claims he couldn't buy modern clothes because they are often designed using AI and they are shipped using the modern supply chain which uses AI. He couldn't use this municipal water system because it uses AI (machine learning) to predict and adjust for demand. He couldn't pay with a credit card because banks use AI to track usage and detect fraud. etc.

Today, July 15, is the final day to apply for the India × Japan DeepTech & AI Venture Challenge 2026, taking place on July 23 at NEXs Tokyo.

The program is designed for Japan-based and Japan-focused founders building in:

• Artificial Intelligence
• Healthcare AI and MedTech
• Robotics
• FinTech
• Climate Tech
• BioTech
• Enterprise and Industrial AI

This is not only a pitch competition. Selected founders will have the opportunity to present their solutions in Tokyo, receive feedback from experienced professionals, explore India–Japan business collaboration, and connect with potential technology and ecosystem partners.

The winning startup will receive up to US$30,000 in engineering support, including access to a dedicated product development team.

Founders who are building a deep-tech or AI product for the Japanese market can submit their application before the form closes today.
