Im REALLY GOING crazy now

Hello everybody,

i have problem , or maby not, i dont know so thats why im asking it here, i really hope somebody can help me with it.

im going to japan next year to marry my girlfriend. we will live in kobe/osaka, and we will look for a house around 60/70.000 yen...

i need to ask for a Spouse visa, after we get married, the immigration will look in our file's about where we met, how long we know, if the relation is not fake...

the will also check for money, and income....!!!!! this is the problem/ or maby
it is...

my girl will is a teacher and gets 9.000 a day so around 180.000 a month, tax going off around 160.000, because its her first year she wont get incurance from company yet, but after a year ( we marry in feb/ and she will be in that company in april for a year) so she is thinking this money is not enough for our living, and that immigration wont give me this spouse visa...

sorry im just going crazy, was a pretty nasty fight on the phone ( mm best F*cking thing of distance relations,,,, phone and internet...

hope any of you guys can make me feel better, or explain to me some things...

I got 280,000yen a month. Being a real teacher in Japan doesn't seem worth it.

Also, finding a house for 60,000 - 70,000 yen? You do mean a month right?

I don't envisage any major difficulties - though I never was in your situation.

How long have you and your girlfriend been in a relationship? That's perhaps a question the immigration authorities will ask. They just want to check that you didn't meet last week!

I'm not surprised to hear that she only gets 180000 yen/month perhaps as a part-time teacher. My wife was working at a junior college last year and was only paid 8000yen/day part-time. I teach there for 90 minutes and get more than that! But there's a big difference between part/full time salaries in general in Japan.

What sort of job are you planning to do?

You might like to use the services of an immigration lawyer. He will point out any potential difficulties before you apply. I'm too lazy to go to the immigration office direct so always use a lawyer. His fee is usually about 40000 yen.

thanks you guys for the quike reply... well first off all i want to do some teaching, partime to start with i think, im going to take a toeic test in summer, and maby some other tests....

but im officialy more a webdesigner, so i hope i can work with that, find a job in japan with that, or international, or start up my own design business..

it wont be a problem about not knowing each other, we know each other now 1,5 year, and she came to my country, and we met in australia, so no problem about that.

she just started working as a teacher for children, on a international school... is this sallery really this low for that kind of things?

I would make sure that you have some photos to hand from the time you spent together in Australia, as well as some more recent pictures.

Her salary is NOT surprising given that she is Japanese. Gaijin teachers have to paid a minimum amount (it used to be 250,000 yen/month but I think that's dropped significantly). But anyway that wouldn't apply to you since you would NOT be working on a teachers' visa. A school could get away with paying you just about anything.

As for finding an immigration lawyer, does your girlfriend have any Brazilian, Chinese, Malaysian or Philippine friends - my lawyer tells me that he often deals with visa applications for nationals from those countries. If so, then maybe they could recommend a lawyer.

Another group of gaijin who often need to use immigration lawyers are artists or musicians. This is because their applications are sometimes complicated by a lack of a regular income. I have a close friend who managed to 'exist' on a recurring 'six month artist visa' for about five straight years, when the cut off was usually after the second renewal - he recommended his lawyer to me!

If you want to PM me with your planned location in Japan I could see if I know any long-term gaijin in that area who might be able to offer some advice.

degree in webdesign,,, doesnt really excist... just i need to have experience and show them i can make good websites

i have an administration degree, if been traveling around the last years so not many degrees, just live expierence bit more then degree....

fight about,,, hehe money, and about i thought we settle some things well, i though she made enough money, what she supose to take care of, but mm its enough for the first months, and we able to life a cheap life in the bginning...

Was curious because a lot of companies in Japan are still old fashioned in that they use a college degree as an immediate requirement.

And if you have a degree, even if it's not in webdesign, you could go job hunting here.

Maybe being one of those third world dutch folk is different, but in my case (spouse visa):

didn't need a job/income
didn't need to show savings/ability to support anyone
didn't need photos
used her dad as a guarantor (get in good with the family! bring/send presents)

Do what I did: come over on a tourist visa, go down to city hall to marry, struggle on her income / savings by living in a crappy little place where you're at each others throats constantly, and wait/ job hunt until immigration sorts you out with the spousal visa (1 or 2 months)

Fighting about money? Let me tell you something, unless you hit big in Las Vegas or the Lotto, you'll always be fighting about money. May as well get used to it (I should know, I am 51 and my ex and I used to constantly fight about money). I would suggest that you both sit down together and plan a financial strategy. Then, if things don't go 100% the way you planned it, she can't start barking about how it is all your fault. She'd have to share some of the blame also. There's more than one way of de-fanging her!
