I Yam what I Yam and that's all that I Yam

A recent article on this site got my interest and I decided to join. In 1972 I was part of a diving documentary movie making experience in the Marshall, Tongan, and Fiji Islands. We were there for 6 months filming. In 1972 the Pacific Islands were still a lot more traditional than they are now. For instance, all the men wore Tupenas in Tonga, Sulus in Fiji, and Sarongs in the Marshall Islands. WE, wanting to fit in since we were going to be there for 6 months all tried the native clothing. It was like HEAVEN, no more rough denim cloth edge slicing vertically up into our scrotums. WOW. Over the next 2 weeks after trying a sarong, I became a convert along with the rest of our 26 member crew. We wore nothing but sarongs, Sulus, or Tupenas depending on which island we were on at the time. By the end of the filming of the ships that were sunk in the A Bomb and H Bomb tests at Bikini Atoll, we were reticent to go home. Of course we had to, and wore our sarongs etc. all the way back to California where we had to check in thru Customs. The Customs officers were the first to say anything negative. "Looky, men in skirts, HAHAHA, you guys transvestites or something?" So, we, red faced, ran into the bathroom to change back to our stinky unworn for 6 months denim pants.

I kept my sarong, sulus and tupenas packed until I got home. Wore them around the house for the next 30 or so years and in 2003 found a web site called "Toms Cafe" where there were real hetero males just like me that preferred wearing what I've found out is called "Unbifurcated garments". It was like the 2nd trip to Heaven. I've made lots of friends there, none of which are CD's, TV's, DQ's or TS's. Just real men wearing skirted garments to be comfortable and free. Hence my name on here, "Comfortable Man" That's my story, enjoy it or not.

I've never had a chance to wear a sarong, but I understand they are very comfortable indeed!

You, my friend Comfortable Man, are one of a select minority who was able to get "out of the box". I commend you immensely.

Since we're on a Japanese forum, I would suggest to you looking into a traditional Japanese garment called "hakama". Tying up the belt takes a little learning, but they are good, too, if not a bit expensive.

Hakama's are still bifrucated though.

The do give more freedom of movement to the legs but the key issue here is that divided bottoms have a tendancy to ride up in the crotch. A hakama isn't as bad as jeans in that respect, but it can still happen.
