I want to become a Japanese Police Officer

I am Japanese Chinese American
I am willing to renounce my american citizenship, and I have Japanese Citizenship.

I am graduating High school soon and going to college.
I have native fluency in speaking (No accent), but my writing and reading could be improved (I plan to study 1-2 hours a day in college).

How difficult will it be for me to become pass the entrance exam? Will it include difficult law questions I will have to study for, or will it just be common sense ethics type question?

Thanks for the link. Yep, I'm planning to study heavily in college. I'm already fluent speaking wise, so I just need to study kanji pretty much. I think 1-2 hours a day for 2-4 years would be enough for me.

May I offer a suggestion.

Why not take a two year college class in Law Enforcement technology for an associates degree. See if any of the police agencies near you have police reserve departments and join if they do. Also many departments have ride-alongs so you can observe what they do. Having some time in uniform on the streets would be good on your resume. In the mean time , you can work on bettering your Japanese.

Thanks. I was looking at the application, and apparentally you get extra "credit" for English, Korean, Chinese, etc. I guess that could be a edge for me. Judo also seems to give you extra credit.

The only problem with applying with a american police agency, is that Japan tends to be xenophobic on some things and I fear the fact that I worked in the American Police force would on the contrary, be detrimental on my resume. I'm not really sure about that though,.

Thanks for the link. Planning to heavily study Japanese, I'm sure 1-2 hours for several years will be enough.

This somewhat dated post says you need to be under 30 to apply. (Ignore the rest about citizenship.)

As you can see, it also points out a very important factor, namely that your language ability and passing a test are not the only things they will consider, despite your dual nationality. Just how often have you visited (or how long have you lived in) Japan? Knowing the culture is a biggie, in my book. On GaijinPot, you wrote that you had visited 7 times for a month each, and claim that based on that, you "understand the work culture in Japan". I would say you are greatly exaggerating your knowledge. Unless you have actually lived here and worked here for a far more extended period of time, you are only fooling yourself.

All Japanese police recruits undergo a standardized curriculum set by Japan's National Police Agency. High school graduates undergo 1 year of police school. After which, they are given "hands on" experience through three months of field work. Once the 3 months are over, the recruits then return for 6 more months of training and discussions about what they experienced. College graduates undergo a slightly different system. While they must also experience 3 months of field work, they only attend police school for 8 months beforehand and 4 months after. Approximately 5% of all Japanese police candidates fail to complete the course.
