Hitachi has announced plans to invest more than $6 billion globally between 2024 and 2027 in its grid equipment business. In the U.S., it will spend $457 million to build a new large transformer manufacturing plant in Virginia that is scheduled to open by the end of 2027. The company also plans to recruit digital specialists to develop and offer services, such as AI- and satellite-based monitoring. The move is part of its effort to build a business model that generates recurring revenue through maintenance, including helping to prevent equipment failures.
