High School Baseball Player

Hi all. I plan to move to Japan (Akita) area. My son will be 16 and is a high level baseball player. We are American. He is learning Japanese but would not be able to pass an entrance exam. Is it possible for him to attend a Japanese high school to play baseball? He would for sure make a team based on baseball ability.

The short answer is I don't know. Hopefully others with more knowledge will reply. However I'll still give some opinions and comments.

• High school is not compulsory in Japan. So the school does not need to make any special accommodations for non-Japanese speakers like they would in elementary or middle schools.
• I think most people in this situation (without the baseball consideration) send their kids to international schools.
• I would try contacting schools in the area and asking them directly if it's possible to matriculate in your situation. I wouldn't necessarily tell them the goal is to play baseball. I think that would just confuse them. I'm not optimistic though since Japan is generally not set up handle multi-cultural circumstances like yours, especially in regional areas like Akita.

I guess I'd look into whatever clubs teams are available in the area. I think they're typically intended for adults or at least university age but it's worth investigating. There's not much detail but here's an article about club teams in Japan.

It may be worth getting in contact with Akita International University, which may also be a suitable place of study for your son in a couple of years. Akita International University

thank you all. I'm starting to think that he should (1) do online schooling accredited in USA (2) join a facility where he can train (3) find independent leagues, travel teams, club teams, that will allow him to play. Any info on independent leagues, travel teams, club teams?

At first please ask the federation of high school baseball in Japan.

The Akita high school baseball league is this.

Native place High School of Shohei Otani is Hanamaki Higashi High School of Iwate.
Native place High School of Roki Sasaki is Iwate Prefectural University ferry High School.

High School Baseball of Japan is not personal upbringing of the player, and a group exercise is main.
It may be different from the baseball upbringing contents which you hope for.

I heard that baseball environment of Hawks was splendid and thought that I could become a good player in the future and seemed to decide Japan going. A upbringing player is a player registered for the purpose of upbringing by professional baseball of Japan and is not included in a follower registration player. When it is not made a contract as a follower in the next fiscal year by the belonging baseball team, a person registered as an upbringing player after the joining an organization as an upbringing player in succession in 3 seasons becomes the free agent automatically.
