It's somewhat like a preparatory course for those who don't know the Japanese language and it's linked to the MEXT scholarship (upon successful completion, you get placed in a Japanese institution as a MEXT scholar). I'm actually trying to find people who have gone for this...
Another thing I was wondering, when applying for the MEXT scholarship for postgraduate/graduate studies, how do you fill up your research plans? Do you have to approach a professor in a uni of your choice first or do you just come up with an outline yourself?

I asked about that too, the officer just did not reply me at all, maybe he/she doesnt know it too. It is not advisable to contact prospective supervisor for AYF according to the officer from embassy.

My guess is that you can't find a prospective supervisor yet because there's no guarantee and it's gonna take a long time before you actually get to the university? I don't know...but this sorta makes it tougher. I'm also at a lost at the proposal part.
