Got my feet wet in the language... now what?

Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased and listened to Michel Thomas' Japanese Foundation & Advanced CD's. From what I learnt, it allowed me to structure sentences using polite manners and gave me a good foundation on how to get around the country if I were to go there (which I haven't).

But I am a bit confused on what to do now, I told myself, maybe I could just listen to podcast's or some other media in japanese to help me not forget everything I've learnt, but I think to myself, that may or may not really help either.

I have not been to Japan ever, nor do I plan on going there soon. I don't have any native speakers that I know of that I can talk to so I have a feeling I'm going to pay off everything I've learnt if I don't do something about it.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I'd love to keep progressing with the language whilst its still fresh in my mind.

I suggest actually... well, getting your feet wet with the language You know, watch movies, listen to things, read stuff, and don't depend on too much English stuff to help you with it.

You might want to check out your local library for Pimsleur. If you're trying to go the audio based route, then Pimsleur, Assimil, and probably JPod 101 would be the way to go.

One way to not forget, and this is something I did with Michel Thomas, was to put 1 sentence for each main concept into Anki with the English sentence for the "question", and then the Japanese "answer" on the other side of the card. You wouldn't want to do this for everything, but just the minimum for each grammar element to keep from forgetting.
